This is the 5th Attack in 12 months in northern NSW. Seriously, this is heavy. It'd have me hinking twice about paddling out if I lived in the area.

Yeah... thee bait fish season is always pretty sketchy... and whenever I've surfed Tallows I've always been wary. I live on the Sunshine Coast... knock wood they stay down that way.

Are vending machines still more dangerous, or have sharks now closed the gap?

These type of devices are not designed to make you bullet proof. But used in the case of an shark taking an interest in you, he will soon get a nasty zap that will pass through his entire body. Kinda like a taser. Sharks have no bones and only cartilage and so the shock is transferred right though that cartilage system. It would still be rather stupid to paddle out into a group of sharks even with the unit fitted and functioning. Sharks are extremely shy still in their interaction. Hence why the shark freaked out so much when it got tangled in Mick Fannings leg rope. Any negative and they will abort any attack/bite.

Good on you Dave, lets hope the idea catch's on

Seems to be getting outa control all around the coast

Heard an alert on the radio today for WA. I think it was Freo to Hillarys. Apparently some big sharks in the area setting of the receivers. Does anyone know how this works and who and how the data is recieved? Can it be accessed by the public live?

Gives you an indication of tagged sharks (and whales and other things of interest) around the more popular beaches.

Also worth noting that fisheries have said a increase between Hillarys and Freo, but that is also the only spot they have receivers working. SO really up and down the coast ATM is a hot spot..

The twitter feed is one method, but they also have a website www.sharksmart.com.au/
But you also need to be aware that the network involved in detection and tagging has now had its funding removed so will just fad away..
