I sometimes think it would be nice to introduce young disadvantaged kids to surfing in some way. The other thoughts I've had is setting up a charity that donates surfboards to kids who can't afford them and/or to indigenous kids.

As I know that without surfing my life would be pretty mundane, and would like to give that to others.

Any thoughts?

By the way I'm 54 male and ride a bigboy, and try not to discriminate against other boardies regardless of their craft.

When I was 20 I had an indigenous mate who surfed and he enriched my life.

Thats a top idea. We are running a fund raising session in the greenroom at the moment that Chrispy has organised. The plan is to raise as much money as possible for disabled surfers. Essentially a group of us have donated a minimum of $50 to have a board made (the shaper Steve De Rosso has thrown in a lot more) that will then travel around the country (via Nicks Surf Cargo) for all the contributors to surf for a few weeks. It is loosely based on the yellow single fin concept. Contour cameras have given us a camera to film everything and a whole host of others have come on board as well - details not yet public but soon will be. We are hoping to raise many thousands. The board will be auctioned off at the end with the money going to the DS. You are welcome to come in on this fundraiser if you like as well. The more the merrier. The board is almost finished - just needs a bit more hand-work.

To clarify I mean children, probably boys, whose background is economically poor, but physically able, like what the Police Youth Clubs do, but a surfing programme.

I could probably donate a board if something gets set up. I've got a board graveyard under my house and most of them are repairable, esp. if you could get a board repairer/shaper willing to donate time to fix up donated boards.
