Does anyone know if this bad boy is up and running at the moment?

It was installed months ago, then broken, then repaired. Has anyone got a link to the live feed if one is available?

Most of them are not working - Trigg, Mullaloo... only Scarbs that I am aware of...

I understand why some people would not want them, but when you are time poor and need to make a call "do I or don't I - and which way do I go?" they are handy...

Because when it's good I don't want every surfer and sponger in Perth racing down to claim it

I go down regardless of how I think the waves will be. Those bacon and egg burgers at the cafe are the best!

I'm pro-technology...I just don't really like surfcams. Not saying I don't use them, but I'd prefer it if they weren't there...or if I was the only guy in the world with access to them

Tbh, I dont think that many people would look at it and go "dude look at that secrets is going off" and then jump in the car from Perth. Well I wouldnt anyway. I would have made my decision on Tuesday or Wednesday as to where Im surfing by the forcast.
I generally only look at the cams to pass the time at work Trigg ect.

I did that...once. Wanted to kill myself afterwards. Nothing worse than seeing decent waves while you're sitting at an office desk. haha

The Camera's don't just show the waves - they show the crowds as well. I know i've looked at the cams before to gauge if a less crowded spot is worth the drive.

Yeah, not a fan of the cams anywhere in Aussie.
Some of my best memories growing up were jumping in the car with ya crew at 5:30am,with as many boards and bodys you could squash into ya mums old volvo,
to check the local to see the conditions, swell size, wind direction ect.

Then make a decision which way to head,

Might take an hour of driving, bakery pie stop, wind the windows down cause someone farted, checking spots, laughing and acting like idiots till we found the best, uncrowded spot to surf.
Half the fun was hanging with ya mates looking for it, being social.

Now crew just sit at home in front of their computers and say,"na,,,looks a bit small or windy". And dont get wet.

Or when they do turn up somewhere thats cracking, their on their mobile telling the crew that are too lazy to get up and look around, that its going off at spot x, ring everyone else and get down here.

When you go out searching,,, you always end up going for a paddle somewhere , and have a laugh along the way searching for it.Good adventures.

If some of ya mates slept in and missed it, we never rang them and told them its going off. We would ring after a good sesion and say "You snooze, you loose"

As much as I love technology, I think it has not been good for surfing.

Back before interweb,, if you found a piece of paradise in indo with perfect waves, it took many years before it was slowly found out and became crowded. Then you could search for another spot.

Now if a hot spot is found it is knowen world wide in minutes.Goggle earth shows the whole coast line everywhere.
Gone are the days of searching , doing it hard for weeks trying to get to some little bit of unknowen coast line, to be rewarded with a bit of paradise perfect waves with no one around,,,,, anywhere in the world.

Glad I got to see the some of those days before interweb tec killed them.

Wow,,,I think I am now offically old, makeing really long posts and saying,,"back in my day before the interweb thingie"

couldnt agree more!

I use to focus so much on cams and the seabreeze/swellnet forcasts that I hardly ever went surfing. The moment I started going to check it out anyway I found myself getting waves 10 times more often and all of a sudden Perth wasn't such a terrible place to be a surfer. But I'm pretty fortunate I must admit...I have all the time in the world to go searching; at least for now. I always go check out Cott first because it's sort of my local. If that isn't any good then it's either up to the ever popular beachie or grab a coffee and head to Secrets, blasting my music as I go. Nothing like going to Secrets when the forecast said 'windy' to pull into the carpark and see those flags hardly even moving...and then having a giggle because I know so many people binned coming down because it was suppose to be 5hit...and if it is windy? Stuff it...go in anyway and take the long board and ride the mush. Beats anything else I could be doing. Have fun, get salty and make the most of it. I love calling my mates afterwards to tell them that they missed out because they're a bunch of lazy unreliable hungover retards
Anyhoo...gone way offtopic. Sorry

But yeah, one of my biggest pet peeves are the scumbags on their mobile phones calling in the crew, especially at Cott with it's one decent take of spot.

You've got a few years to go yet suba. You've got to be recognised by the locals and also be a pretty good surfer to be accepted.

I grew up there my entire life. It's my local as much as anyone's.

Accepted by who? The Cott Bra Boys? Like I could possibly care less.

What I mean by that is "allowed by the locals to be in rotation for the sets". Easiest way is to live local, join the boardriders as a grom, and surf there regularly for 10 years or so. It's not your local if you don't live there. In the same way that Trigg Point will never be my local, no matter how often I surf there. There are days when an outsider can snag a few waves if the locals aren't around, but as soon as the regular pack arrives it's all theirs. Just the way it is, everywhere.

Maybe I'm wrong. I don't surf there much any more. But I know who is who and who gets the waves. Maybe you're one of those people, you never know with anonymous internet personas.

Appologies Dog and Legion, but I'm with Suba on this one.

Firstly, Legion I have read a PHD thesis written by a guy who research surf culture and localism and he concluded that locals to breaks actually sometimes do not live anywhere in the area of the break; it's possible to be a local of a break far from your home. Not my words but it was found by some clever guys.

Secondly, Suba's right about the cams. Guys who rely on them and other forecasts get the heads up for real-time forecasts. Without them, those that are keener surfers definately get more waves. This Saturday morning just gone was a good example, forecasts predicted winds, I went anyway and it was glass!

Stuff boardriders. I read on the cott board riders website that their ethos is survival of the fittest. All well and good, but I don't want a bar of that. Back in the old days even J.C. helped those most in need. Helping the rich get richer and the fit get fitter is all well and good but I don't want a bar of locals, cott, crowds or anything like that.
