Gonna be in San Sebastian in a week or so, staying near La Zuriolla, anybody got any tips for getting a wave here and where to hire board & wetsuit - water temp is 14?!!

good surf at San Seb, and a GREAT place to spend some time. Zuriolla is the only surf beach within walking distance of the old town, has shifting sand banks & usually reliable swell. It's a good wave but plenty of tourists in season & has very parochial locals. think of trigg but more civilised - you can buy a beer & get good cheap food on the beach. I was there in August and no wetsuit needed. probably not so crowded if it's that cold now. don't argue w the lifeguards at San Seb. they're paid, will confiscate your board if you're in the wrong area & call the cops if you argue. on the flip side, no swimmers allowed in the board area. I took a board but you won't have any probs hiring one. plenty of surf shops & surf camps. surf lesson/hire boards on the beach also but they might be seasonal.

There's plenty of good surf & fewer crowds further out but you need a car. A good move if you have limited transport options, parking in town is expensive & a real hassle, is to make contact w the surf camps (google - there's a few). they do day trips up & down the coast for E50 - E100 person/day depending how far they're going. they know all the spots of course & will keep you away from the crowds. have fun.

La Ziuriolla is not bad, was super high tide with fading swell when I surfed yestetrday, watched most struggle on shorties so hired a mal and found a nice little bank. First time wearing a 4mm wetty, bloody glad I had it! I've cream headache first time under ha ha.

Got some long fat ones that walled up into a shorey, good just to be in the water after a week of no surfing. Locals were pretty cruisy, tourists surf the morning mainly by the looks of it?

It's out of control atm, over double head close outs with a few hardy souls trying. Hitting it tomorrow as soon as surf shop opens at 11 ha ha hopefully settles a bit. If still massive spotted a little protected point set up down the coast when on pushy mission. Could easily live here though, awesome place.

San Sebastian is indeed a fantastic place.

If its still maxing, Mundaka is only an hour away.

Hired a 6'3 shorty as tide was 2 hours from full, waves still well and truly head and shifty and pitching heaps but cleaner than yesterday.

Wind backed off and managed a few big drops both left and right peaks, a few held up for a few turns and racing sections. There is a bit of power in this ocean, copped a flogging after taking a bomb due to being called in (had to go!) Charging winter swells in a foreign land on a hire board is not wise but all ended well.

Once again good vibe and had a lot of fun, just love surfing new spots, will hit it again tomorrow, swell dropping now so will asses the board selection once have checked it out.

About to have a quick shower and hit fav bar for pintxos and 1$ beers! If you are a surfer coming to Spain this place is well and truly worth it, would love to have a car and a bit more time to check out other breaks

Sorry Razz, had the missus on photo duty but she was more interested in the gossip mag in the backpack, said she lost track of me. Hard to believe when I am the only bloke in black wetsuit and white board ha ha

Hired a 7 foot NSP board today early arvo and got some really nice rights on the limit iof the banned section of beach due to dredging, sadly no photos but missus said she saw me get a couple of good one all way to shore break..told her I need proof for the seabreeze crew which drew a blank response.

Hard to show with only words how cool this place is without pics, might try and post some landscape ones once sifted through camera. After the surf we hired a bike for 6 hours for 10e and pedalled to a neighbouring fishing harbour town. Hiked to a lighthouse with amazing views of a coastal set up not seen before, just blew my mind.. The place is so rich with history.
