A few mates and I are thinking of going to Samoa in late January start of February. Just wondering if anyone's been there that time of year and what the waves are like?
Thanks

Lots of slab type waves - good fun but take a few boards. Lots of variety but remember it's the Pacific and not Indo.

Jan and feb are the wet season, so the North side of the Islands should have some waves.if u do go make sure you get over to savai'i, the island to the west of upolu. Maybe the waves won't be that great at that time of year but it's a awesome fun place to visit and the Samoans are the coolest people Ive ever met.

We rented a car and just found cheap places to stay. The up market surf camps are cool and you will get more waves staying there but not the real samoa In my humble opinionated opion.

Been there twice, one trip stayed two weeks south coast Upolu and the other time two weeks south cost Sava'ii. Both trips dry season (July). I have explored all around both islands. I wanted to go back and suss it out for the wet season on the north coast myself as I reckon there would be some serious potential, and I think in that season you are definatley best to hit Sava'ii. I agree that the people are cool and a unique vibe for a holiday. It's not the next indo but there are good waves and I was stoked on my sessions there. Almost all setups are heaving pits, only surfable on high tide or it's dry reef, so take some booties if you are worried and pull in. My fav wave was still 30cm deep on the last section so you had to get the hell out of there before the end of the wave or prepare to face the ole cheese grater.
