I have had my Ripcurl GPS watch for 6 months and love it, but I am a bit concerned about the silicone band where it meets the face of the watch. Since new, the silicone has been able to be peeled away from around the glass face, enabling sand etc.. to get inside the gap. I checked some new watches instore last week and all of these have the silicone hard against the glass face - unable to be peeled back. A friend with one of these the same as mine had the silicon rip when removing his wetsuit recently. Has anyone else got one of these watches with the loose fitting silicon?

No. I couldn't replace a strap on an old rip c watch moons ago and have never wasted my hard earned on another.

Not had any issues like that. I did however cut around the face slightly that annoyed me. I guess its the style of the silicon being so soft.

Email them and ask the question. I find them very good to deal with regarding any queries I've had..It would be nice to know if you can replace the band and face (Ie the silicon parts) and a rough idea of price, however id be chasing yours up though as a warranty issue

On a side not the shop i bought mine from (a local store) ask me all the time about it and the my use. The discounts i have received from them since the purchase have almost paid for the watch itself

Mines going well no drama. It's clasic how when the battery runs out you find the satellite and it resets everything for you.

having one, would you guys recommend getting one?

Is it something that you do get any use out of, or is it just a gimmick?

To be honest I didn't buy it for the GPS,the thing has seriously large font which means I can read the time.

I got sick of replacing watches. Casio gshock. So far so good. Year three, still going which is rapidly approaching some kind of record. I had seikos. They didn't survive my lifestyle, same with Citizens. Cheap watches needed more frequent replacement. So I got the toughest thing I could find. It's been run over by a land cruiser and came up swinging.

I believe that the GPS watch is rechargable using a USB cable. I could be wrong though as I don't own one.

I've been wearing the same watches for the last 7 years. I visit family in Japan every year or 2 & pick up these $10 cheapies called Cybeat. I've never had one drown or had the battery die. But the little band that holds the excess canvas strap ends up breaking after about a year & they're so cheap I just grab a spare'y. First time it happened I didn't have a spare & fixed it with a lacky band until I bought a couple of newies

G Shock are a very strong good quality watch imo. Especially for the price. The rip satellite can be charged with the USB cord. There pricey but cool as. They count waves measure distance tides fastest speed. My top speed on wave is 40.1 kph. I'm not really into gadgets but the watch is cool as.

Especially for the price ....... Sorry but the price is out of control for what it offers. It's a beautiful example of up selling and gullible consumers. Enjoy if that's what you want but they are taking the p155

If I wanted all that data I'd buy a Trace Up as you can overlay it with your GoPro footage, and it is about $200 cheaper.

I have neither a GoPro, nor a Trace btw. I know my surfing is terrible without having to capture the data

Does anyone know where I could get hold of a replacement charger?

Mine has fried and rip curl have continually failed to get hold of one - wondering if a shop would have more clout - FYI I did buy it in a shop, in Aus but have subsequently moved back to the UK so comms are difficult!

A big thanks to the Ripcurl repair centre for replacing the entire silicone band under warranty. My watch came back just like a new one.
