The Gold Coast Bulletin is reporting that Rip Curl is hoping to hold their Search event at the iconic Lennox Head in Northern NSW.

Rip Curl’s international marketing and advertising chairman Neil Ridgeway told the Bulletin "We've 100 per cent officially applied through all the right channels to get the right permits and approval."

The Bulletin article seems to be hinting that it’s a done deal and we will be seeing the Rip Curl Pro Search at Lennox soon, but when ASL contacted the Curl, they were, as you’d imagine, playing things close to their chests.

Australian marketing manager Nick Russell told us “we’re looking at a lot of places. Lennox Head is definitely in the mix for a future Rip Curl Search event, but nothing is locked in, and it’s one of many venues we’re considering hosting the Search at.”

If the search comp jacks so many people of why do they bother. Surf comps in general are a hassel if your not involved. I'm not having a go at rip curl i think they make red hot wetties and have recently purchased a new one meself but nobody likes rockin up to a spot and being told they cant surf there because theres a comp or seeing there favorate travel destination exposed all over the net or in mags. With this in mind why dont these big so called surf companies realise this and keep to the spots there at or do what quicksilver did and actually find spots. ie the crossing idea.

Yeah (but I surf Mona Vale a lot as I work there), you should see it during the summer (can any one say Euro Trash or westies) or the Bower when we get a cracker of a swell and a S wind the place looks like a can of Sardines. Thankfully there's lots of other places to surf between there and Palmy.

I was sitting out the back one day and this pommy guy paddles up to a bunch of his mates that are sitting beside me after catching a wave and says "did you see that, I'm the king of drop in's". Couldn't belive it, well that's not true I can belive it. That's surfing in Manly (and other parts of the Northern Beaches) to a T.

During the last Snowy McCalester longboard event guys where surfing though the contest area left, right and centre, the competitors weren't too happy about that.

The contests aren't the bad guys, it's the people with over inflated egos that think their d1ck is as long as their board and can't get past their opinion of themselves.
