any ideas to make this job quick and painless ???

Go away on an epic trip without any emergency glue - guaranteed the deck grip will peel off.

peel off as much as you can with one hand while slicing against the board with a safety back razor blade...you will end up with glue deposits...the best way I have found to remove this is automotive paint thinners....do little bits at a time by painting it on quite liberally with a small brush....the thinners will thin the glue to a point where you can scrape it off...I found that the plastic scrapers work best, good luck

I'm with Legion here... Don't get precious about it, rip the damn thing off! I personally rip as much as I can with fingers then wax right over it. To quote occy 'one board, one wax job... that's the way it goes'.

Personally, I'm not a fan of deck grips. It is simply one more variable that can go wrong at the worst given time. I rip them off at the first sign of trouble and wax here up.

Agree with paddlepig.
All my boards had the grip pulled off the moment they started peeling. Never liked the things anyway.

Elbow grease

Use a hair drier, that softens the glue. It should just peel off. Use wax and grease remover to get the rest of the glue off, job done!!

Also Mineral Turpentine (turps) will take the glue off without harming the board.

I use a citrus bases glue remover, easier on the hands.

I also use turps for removing stuff.

put the tail of the board in a tub of very hot water that will cover the grip for 5 min ,it will peel of with ease ,you can re use the grip is it no allredy damaged ,use a good 3m spray glue as per instructions to put back on .

Let the Tailpad dry right out and hit the glue with a can of WD-40 with one of thos straw extender nozzles.

Deck pad absorbs the oil, the glue breaks down and the pad should peel of a bit at a time.

WD-40 will make your board slippery and may attract sharks so remember to remove all of it before surfing again, unless of course its your mates board.

yeah it not cheap - i will try heating to remove carefully and recycle - what is 3 m glue and where can I find it ?? Thanks

3m is a brand used in car car repairs fom a lot of the trim work ,there is cheaper ones out there but i would no use them ,the hot water works very well if you want to reuse the pad ,

Or just liberal Kwik Grip. Then it'll never come off again .

+1 for Kwik Grip... $6 or so from Bunnings etc

what ever you do don,t stick epoxies in the hot water and carefull with the hair dryer . we usually peel them back using a blade to help then turps or eucalyptus oil.

never had any probs with epoxy and hot water.?
