Does anyone know where to get a thruster to quad fin conversion in brisbane. I did get quoted 100-120 bucks to get the additional plugs put in at one shop.
I was hoping it wasn't quite that expensive. I'm not quite ready to attempt myself.

Plugs are anywhere from $5-$10 each, that's conservatively $10 per set, so the repairer is only charging $40 for each side. Fair bit of fiddling around with lining up, drilling, resin work, sanding and all to a professional standard I assume you seek. Give the dude your money and a few beers if it's a great job.

Ok thanks.
The surf shop i bought my board from mentioned it should be about $50 which i guess threw my expectations. They didn't do the conversion themselves there. Maybe that was the internal price he can get when ordering customs.

Appreciate the help.

I'm curious - what's wrong with it as a thruster? Why do you want to convert it?

Have a crack at it yourself. You can find some rip off fcs plugs pretty cheap on e-bay. Take your time to mark them out correctly and go for gold. Make sure you stick them round the right way. Lots of Youtube clips on how to put them in. Futures boxes are normally around $10 each and are a lot more complicated to put in yourself - unless you know someone with a jig. Alternatively make a jig yourself. But if its fcs do not be afraid to give it a go yourself. You will be surprised. You just need to get over the fact that you are putting a hole in your pride and joy - but its amazing what a bit of resin can do to make it look nice and neat. Especially if you throw a bit of black or white pigment in it. If you are going to doing it yourself make sure you use an old fin to line things up and do both on one side at a time. The secret to the finish is a good sander initially and using the right paper. Start with 80 then 120, 180, 240 then wet n dry at 320 (and 600 if you are really fussy) and it will look beautiful. You do not need to use every grade of sandpaper - you can skip a few of these but it only takes a a few scrubs with each and you are there.

Hi Legion,
I've always wanted to try a quad but never had the option. I tried a twin fin the other week and the speed was awesome. I was looking for a board anyway and stumbled onto a rusty magic thumb for half price and thought why not give it a crack.

Thanks Ted also, I might do some research and maybe get a old board to test on. I'm still a bit skeptical about my ability particularly on a new stick.

Cheers

I have a fast, flat twin with trailer. Rear fin is about 3.5" x 3.5". It's a big difference from putting a full size fin in there. You could try that? Doesn't require any extra holes.

Sometimes fast is not everything. Sometimes you can end up not where you want to be.

I just did one for a mate at mates rates $30.
So $50 from a shop sounds like a deal.

Thanks Legion,
I might look at that.

just curious also is the configuration of the front two fins for a thruster that much different to a twin fin?

Cheers
