Checked out a board JC was making Shane Dorian for biggish pipe a few weeks ago, it was only 5'10". He was also doing shanes gun for jaws which was 10'+ and around 4" thick. Bizarre boards.

Its going to be a hell of a showdown, and if the swell is as good as whats forecast, I think the wildcards could have a massive say in how things go down.

The trials start on the first day in the waiting period, and there are some big name pipe specialists competing for the 2 wildcard spots. Dorian, JOB, Sunny Garcia, Ian Walsh, Pancho Sullivan, Kalani Chapman, Mason Ho. Even our own Jack Robbo gets a guernsey.

Whatever happens, I'm hoping that it gets real big, and that whoever wins the world title is the guy who charges the hardest. Hopefully it won't come down to **ty air reo's and a tactical battle that becomes more about holding priority than actually surfing.

I am glad Dusty Payne got a wild card into main event.

Doesnt make sense to from a triple crown point of view that in other years leading contenders for triple crown after first two events didnt get the wild cards.

I think it was Julian Wilson before he was on the WCT who was first or second after first two events and didnt get an entrance into pipe.

doesn't sound like conditions are lining up for as epic as pipe can be yet.
hope they hold off til the first big swell clears some of that sand (hopefully)

Yep last 5 min of a heat you should only hold priotity for a minute,or something like that.

Its competition surfing not free surfing! Nothing wrong with the priority system, it's one for one, cant get much fairer than that.

Yeah I agree with you. Using the priority system adds an element of strategy to heats, I like it. The good surfers still make things happen when they don't have priority anyway. I've seen plenty of heats where the guy with priority has lost because he's waited for that perfect wave to come through and it never did.

Without priority it would just be carnage with guys trying to paddle deeper and deeper, just like you see at popular reefies here.

Good to see Jack Robbo getting a couple of good ones in the trials. Would have loved to see him in the main event

Yeah, it was. However, it still clocked him. Boo to 10 points!
