What if the local surfers are also the lifesavers?

It was crowded way back in the 70s!!

They're worried about the tripod being over run with crocs and leather sandals

Locals had it wired in the 80's so not a wave you can wander into town and expect to get to far up the pecking order.

Closest wave I can describe as heaven and hell all rolled into one.

Great place to stand and watch when it's big... saw a great tow-in session when it was easily 2.5x head height. Never been out... looks like a wave you have to know well.

I had a scary run in with a local up there but just down the road a bit. Biggest stinky breathe i ever seen and k 9 tusks that left me feeling very timed, especially when he kept trying to stop us paddling in

I have had a hatred of seals ever since[}:)]

Surfed it with 1 other whilst on my honey moon in 2000. Sunday arvo, 6ft & offshore. Virtually drove up to it, saw it & went out!! Didn't have any maps however I read in a Lonely Planet guide that is had good waves.

Surfed it again whilst traveling around Australia in 2003,- 4ft low tide & breaking on the edge of the point. Went 1 section too far ended up being deposited upon dry reef & nearly obtained a new a**hole! Wife always reminds me of the running commentary she heard in the car park "hey look at this bloke".

Don't think the Slovaks will be coming anytime soon.

I'd have to agree, one of the best small to mid size waves in aus.

surfed really big probably safer IMO breaks further out off the reef long as you dont blow the take off good big and smallgood local crew to

one surf i had there in the eighties, there were lots of girls topless in the pools at the edge of the reef, then some guy on a surf ski decided to paddle out in the nude. everyone in the line up just cringed at the guy on the goat boat. something no one should experience.

its definitely not a beginners wave, more intermediate to advanced level of surfing.
lots of people get f#cked up on that reef.

The local doc was pissed as when he stitched him up.

I remember another trip with you and a few other crew Poida, got a few photo's somewhere.

I've surfed it about 8' a few times and found it was breaking wide, I've spent a bit of time there and have not seen that good big, would not even paddle out these days for fear of getting hit by a jet ski. Best size is 3' to 5'

yeah, they were great trips. was that the one where it was dead flat all week then last day after an epic party on the last night it picked up to BIG-BIG size? people came from everywhere, only about 5 in the water and 50 watching. have a pic of it - it was way out of my league .

Surfed it aged 15 first time at about 4 to 6 feet and it was amazing. Second wave got my first ever proper barrel. Almost double in size the next day, still stupidly went out.

Took off on one wave and did the tin soldier leap frpm the top of the wave and that was total for the day.

Watched a local take off and cartwheel in the barrel and coming up with a big gash on his shoulder and across his hand.

Mate and I then spent half an hour trying to come in at little Jakes with parents and others trying to direct us in. Someone else followed us and ended up coming across the ledge further north which was very ugly.

4ft growing to 6ft is the go, IMO, with the prevailing conditions of course. (Albeit rare)

The other stories are good too. 8ft+ is a good rush..and can have its day for sure.

tried to surf it in a NE once. Wasnt a pretty result. By that afternoon it was a light SE to glass. Locals were just toying with it at about 6ft range.
