Digging through some old photos and found a few that were taken at Dixieland's near Dawesville. I know I like checking out photos that have been posted here so I thought I would contribute, maybe looking a bit tattered now but it give's you an idea of the wave. I guess it's ok to name this spot as there's a dirty big groyne over the reef now. I think they were taken in about 1985/86. I had some fun sessions there in the mid 80's, only 2 of us there this day.

I've got some more old photos laying around which I'll try and find and put up

Thanks for these.

At least you wont get red thumbed for these and naming a spot given it was blown up to make way for the Dawesville channel.

I wont get started about government committments given at the time about no loss of surfing breaks in the design of the cut.

I started surfing Surfbeach in the late 70's when there were waves from Longpoint to Golden Bay. Things have changed for sure. Went to the first development meetings for Secret Harbour where they explained about the new era, I think the developers words were "We are moving away from the bulldozer mentallity of the past" Yeah right. I was also in the water when the second the seabreeze kicked in they lit the scrub up behind the dunes and let the wind do the job. Bulldozers were in by the end of the week. I still surf Surfbeach every week and it still has very brief moments, but the crowds this summer have been the worse I have seen without a doubt. That's progress I guess.

Anyway got some old photo's from same era as above and earlier from Surfbeach, Will find and post for memory's sake.

Ive never had picks, my best mate who i surfed with went on to be a famous photograhper so i always let him take the shots. He now lives overseas and couldn't find any old shots..

Can you remember how fine the sand was when they first took away the dunes

Surfbeach during the 80's, the good old days.

How flat and boxy railed were those thrusters compared to today

How awesome was that massive dune shown in the bike photo....saw a few 4x4s come to grief in there.

I was only about 13 when i started down there. My old man would drop me and mates of at the end of the road, leave the trailer parked and we had an Honda Oddesy that we would load up with boards, esky's and 4 blokes and surf and play all day. Getting picked up at 5 ish after work. In those days i lived in Swan View (hills) and my old man worked in Kwinana...Jeez when you think back how much my folks drove me to the beach i feel better about my efforts now with my kids

Progress ha [}:)]

I remember getting chased out of the dunes as a grommet by rangers 16yrs ago for sand boarding when there was no swell, with the argument that they were trying to rehabilitate the dunes

A ranger even gave one of my mates an on the spot fine of $50 for being in there once, I wish he had of kept it, calculated the interest Over 16yrs and walked into the local council with his hand out[}:)]

Yep, they fu@ked alright
