Just bought myself this board. Rode the Cab Sav solidly for the last month and it got my obsession going for shorter groveller boards and really helped me transition smaller. I bought the 5'7" Cab Sav and I weigh 90kg. I went for it for the foam, vs. the utility and super performance. I ride it in little mushy beach break waves and cleaner hollower waves. I also surfed the Cab Sav up to about shoulder high another day when it was a little bit more lined up with lots of of clean, fun, fast peelers. This board does really, really, well and you have a lot of fun. trying out different quad fins at the moment so any advice appreciated.

I would recommend trying Kelly Slater's FCS signature quad set. they provide good start-up acceleration and speed while maintaining manoeuvrability in tight sections. these quad fins in the barrel enable you to go really fast and hold a great line. the advantages of a quad are great lateral speed and they ride the barrel well. these are also really stable and generally won’t slide out on you.

Anyone know why the price premium on these boards? RRP $1280

I got mine direct from shaper for $825 with the Orange half spray And 5 fin boxes but no fins came with it.
for a bit more there is a special on but I didn't need all the extras
where did you get the 1280 price?

The Kelly fcs quads look sick or has any one tried the FCS HI-1 QUAD FIN SET - RED STRIPE?

Ah ok, I just saw the price above and didn't see the extras.

I'm using AM2 front + GXQ rear on my board.

I bought a 2nd hand Cab Sav and ride it in knee 2 thigh high slop and have a blast with it. It used to be a steady diet of Longboarding for me. It really does catch waves about as well as a log but is a far more playful and subtle. Cab Sav model is very manouverable with the bonus of a bit of foam giving you good length of ride. THE most fun I have had surfing small waves to date in all my years of surfing. highly rate.

I had a mate that bought one of these. He said it had a super soft glass job, surfed just like a thai pop out and he snapped it after one surf..... he glued it back together, painted the back of it orange and tried to flog it on a water sports website...

I demoed 2 quad sets the stretch quads and tried the Al Merrick 2s at side and GXQ at the back. I prefer the AM2 setup So bought those. Thanks for advice bene

Looks like a nice outline. Where is that shaper based?

Just picked up my new 5'4 the only thing I worry about is getting addicted to it during this flat spell and then getting back on my standard shorty will be difficult

For the same reason, i love surfing my Sweet Potato in small waves, but i find it makes me surf front foot forward and yeah, its strange getting back into a shorter board after summer. I do wonder if i have a little too much volume in the SP..

I love the bright colours on these boards.

Takes a few surfs to transition. Just remember to allow a few sessions to get used to the different take off point, change in buoyancy, approach etc;

dan berry I agree the glass lab does a sick glass job I also got a merrick and no major dings and the blanks are so strong yet flex just right.

What an idiot.you should not insult people's livelyhoods The guys that Produce and glass these boards and the guys who make the blanks. They are great people who produce a quality product. And an Australian made product at that. Best glass job on the east Coast by far and core blanks are overtaking burfords and South Coast as the most popular foam and most durable.

Its 6 inches shorter than my short board. But i did get it when i was 15 kilos heavier. Would be fun to try it around 5'6" but really surfing 1 foot waves with the kids, its loads of fun still And its light than a long board still

Oh yea perfect for mucking around with the kids, it was fun to surf but had too much volume for me and for you.

I think it's best with a groveller to go 3”-4” shorter than your height and 2” shorter than your height for your all round short board as a general rule of thumb.

First surf with my new fcs red stripe quad fins and found the board was highly manoeuvrable and the fins seem to promote smooth transitions between turns. The speed and the touch of extra looseness I feel with these fins is good for the conditions I will be surfing the groveller in 1/2 foot to 3 foot beaches. also need to test in cleaner conditions as yesterday was 2ft mush.

Haha i can remember one summer arvo sitting with kids, i started to get sea sick thanks to the buoyancy
