She makes me laugh, we have a good time on the turps, haven't had a disagreement for 6 months...

But she doesn't surf,
and cant understand why I want to go and jump in the sea at 5am on a winters morning or go and sit in a fly infested camp ground in the middle of no where.

I now find my self trying to get a leave pass or turning the phone off when I do an over nighter down south.

I told her I was going on a surf trip to Indo with the boys and she cracked it..

Is this common for you guys. I thought I was whip proof but it does happen..

I believe in any relationship both parties need to have an outside interest and
both should encourage the other to for fill it.

Remember,your young and only live once enjoy, the day will come when marriage,kids and all the other pressures that comes with it will slow you down for a while.

It's a pretty tough call brother. If she can't understand your passion now, imagine what it's going to be like when you are tied down with kids. Have a chat to her and make sure that she understands that surfing is your other mistress and always will be.

At the end of the day mate what can you do without if it came to that, cuts the argument short and gives you the answer you seek.

Once you know that its all about the delivery of the decision I reckon, if she thinks what you love doing is pointless than the answer is right there in front of you ha ha

mate, you can have both! I gather the relationship is 6 months old and now is the crunch time, you will have to minimise the amount of time you spend doing "other" things. You'll have to integrate her into the surf trips, if down south find a winery or "other" places to visit. The boys trips can remain sacred but every now and then include her in a surf trip or at least make the offer, I do this with the kids and wife and it works. Also, explain that surfing makes you feel great and that when you feel good she will reap the rewards, don't say that it gives you a break or time away from the "s**t" you don't like. Keep the phone on! they hate that big time!! I'd stay with her but know that this is pretty normal behaviour, they just want to feel included in your life, so try to include/offer at appropriate times and things will work out OK.

That is not entirely true Mocha, not all women want to change their man!
And Busterwa not all women love to shop!

Torch - i doubt she is going to understand why u want to go surfing at 5am on a winters morning or sit in a fly infested camp in the middle of no where. I guess u will have to try and explain it to her or maybe she has a insecurity issue who knows, but it is not fair for someone to make what u love a painful tedious thing when u are constantly dreading telling her that u are going surfing, or turning ur phone of when u are down south.

That was the one great thing about my girlfriend.
She didn't give a **** if I went surfing, went to Indo, down south or up the the Bluff. She didn't mind because she knew it's what needed to be done.

Just make sure that you spend time with her doing things she wants to do .
If she really loves you she will want you to do things that make you happy,, and besides "only a surfer knows the feeling" anyway so of course she wont understand .

If you do want to stay with her you need to put your foot down now. Nothing to excessive but ya mrs needs to understand you have your interests and hobbies that you have had for a long time. (prior to her being around) If she is starting to crack the whip 6 months in it's only going to get worse.

My ex (of 3 years) [}:)] turned into a control freak and trust me there is nothing worse.

The current Mrs (of 6 years) is awesome. She is honestly my best mate. Although she is not overly interested in participating in anything that i am interested in, be it surf, fish, motox etc, she doesn't have an issue with me doing them. We still get on the sauce together, get on really well with each other's friends and have a really fun time when we're together. You just need to try find a bit of time over the weekend or during the week to do a few things with her that they enjoy doing. Bit of give and take. I find the key is to try give them as much prior warning as possible as to what you will be doing.

If you really do like this chick and can see yourself being with her longterm have a talk to her about why she has issues with the things that you enjoy doing.
But whatever you do DON'T let anyone stop you from doing what you enjoy doing!

Cut ya loses on this one mate. Plenty of fish in the ocean. If she doesn't understand now she proberbally never will. Arrange for a custom board to arrive the day after you cut her loose and you will proberbally forget she was ever around.

Looks like you dodged a bullet there, you could have stuck it out and copped it for another 6 months and been miserable cos you keep missing winter sessions trying to please her. Shame it ended that way but sounds like it all worked out for the best
