check their web site... we are just sorting excess baggage for our daughter coming back from the states... from what my wife tells me theres a sliding scale of extra fees for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd bag.

it's not just qantas - the american airlines are starting to do it also (although their weight limits are more generous).

$300 for 3 boards, the bloody fare would have been cheaper!****'n airlines are starting to find more ways of screwing us to pay for their marketing of cheap fares, just don't read the fine print.
Cheers

heres the letter I wrote to these money pincher, if you love your water sports send them a letter, wonder if my status points will be taken off me

To Whom it may concern

I would like to express my concern over the recent change in your baggage limit policy of one bag per customer.

I have used Qantas as my preferred airline for all my personal flights with in Australia for the past 32 years.
I have enjoyed its prompt service, safety standards and customer service during these's years.

Although other airlines offer similar services at a significantly cheaper fair, I take it as piece of mind that I am supporting an Australian made company that supports the Australian way of life and culture.

With that said, a part of the culture of this great country is sport, which the nation is very good at. Whether it be at a professional level or weekend enthusiast, whether it be land sport or water sport, it is engrained into us and defines us Australians.

Now with your new baggage requirements, It seems Qantas is not supporting the Australian way of life, not supporting its culture, making it harder for mothers and fathers to support their children in sport and travel, not allowing amateur sporting people to enjoy this great country by not allowing them to bring their sporting equipment with them.

I now have no reason to support this Australian company since it doesn't support us. It is now popular thought that Qantas has finally become Un-Australian

Best of luck with sales

I'd sign that if it were a petition. I can get around it because of my frequent flyer perks but I still reckon the changes are bullsit.

We're flying to Bali with Garuda on Sunday and they have a 15kg sporting equipment allowance at no extra cost. Just make sure you give them a call prior so they can put it on the system.

I have flown Garuda and Jetstar to Indo. Garuda were awesome, always treated boards as fragile.
Jetstar on the other hand, I viewed them toss my boardbag about a meter away from a height of around the same. Dudes didn't care at all, luckily all survived for another day as I usually pack my boards fins removed in a boardsock before I put it in the travel bag.

Shoot, does anyone know off hand what the go is with Jetstar then?

I am going to Bali in August and am planning on taking 2 boards.

Should I just stick some clothes in a double board bag with the boards?

just got back from indo, all airlines are now charging for anything over one piece, throw as much as you can in a carry on bag (no liquids over 100 ml) and the rest in a double board bag...keep it under 20kgs....looks like there is or will be, a market for a board bag with suitcase qualities

True, but I travel regularly for work with more than one bag as I can't pack bags over 10kg for the chopper. So I get pinged all the time.

That was $30 per extra bag even if the combined total of your luggage is under the allowance that you are allowed to travel with
I will just have to buy a larger bag
I know if i was a baggage handler i would rather lift 2 bags that weigh 10kg each rather than a single 20kg piece
Obviously Qantas don't
