Gday all, off to indo in 5 days and counting.

Im flying into bali, staying there for 2 weeks first then doing a surf charter boat trip to lombok/sumbawa (desert point, Ekas bay, yo yos, scar reef etc) for a week, then back to bali for few days and home.

Im still considering what boards to take out of my quiver.

I have a 5'10x18 1/2x 2 3/16 swallow tail haydenshapes fiberflex epoxy neverbog model
a 6'0x18 1/4x 2 3/16 squash tail haydenshapes fiberflex epoxy BlackCat Model
a 6'2x18 1/16x 2 1/16 rounded pin tail- step up board (standard PU)
a 6'5x 19x 2 5/8 pintail semi gun- (standard PU)

I done this same trip in april/may this year and took 3 boards last time, a 6'1, 6'2, and 6'5.
I snapped my 6'1 last trip and used my 6'2 pretty much from 2ft to 8-10ft and only used my 6'5 once wen the swell got up.

Im thinking of taking 3 boards again my 5'10, 6'0 and , 6'2 all in a 7 ft 6 mini mal traveller cover i borrow of my dad, i will take 4 various sets of fcs fins to accompany the boards.
As my 6'2 is in average condition i am contemplating giving it to a balinese friend when i leave to come home which will free up KGs for return fligh.

it sounds like an epic trip, but may i add that im travelling with 2 mates which both of whom bodyboard, which could get interesting in bali.

Any opinions from u guys would be great
cheers
Andy

Bowlsy the only bit i can offer is to leave your bodyboard mates at home as they will add too much weight to your board bag.
the main problem with taking epoxy boards o/s is getting them fixed when/if they snap ding etc, speaking from experience.....
was in bali a couple of months ago,was awesome waves, have a blast mate.

lol about the lid mates, too true mate..

when i was in bali last time i was with a friend who has an epoxy board, we were surfing out balangan and he hit a coconut on a wave and put a massive puncture in his board.
We Actually found a surf shop in poppies 2 that done epoxy repairs.
Just to be on the safe side im planning on buying some epoxy solarez before i leave just in case.

cheers mate for the insight
im pumped..

for minor dings (basically anything but a snap), fix your epoxy board with 5 min araldite, get the stuff that comes in a two part syringe.

then give the epoxy board to a balo before you come home... epoxy boards suck

yea iv herd that with the araldite.

I thought that aswell until i actually rode 1, they are amazingly light but still strong, very drivey and fast and super responsive. (iv only ridden and would only buy fiberflex)

i agree with the doctor sorry people.
ive tried all the fads, tufflite, fibre flex etc even firewire, always come back to
foam and glass.
dont rely on epoxy being super strong, seen a lot of them snapped in indo.

I've been surfing and visiting indo for longer than you've been alive, i reckon i've had a bit of experience...

as for tufflites, if they are so good why don't any pros' ride 'em...?

even taj, who's sponsored by firewire rides poly boards sprayed and stickered to look like firewires.

Any proof of this stupid, persistent rumour? The guy who used to handmake his boards has denied it on several occasions and he hasn't been with Firewire for years so has nothing to lose by telling the truth.

Just because tufflites are not ridden in comps' does not mean they arent good for 99% of surfers

I have been riding 1 tufflite for the last 5 years in which time many of my mates have bought numerous boards, firewire, PU, and Black Cats, all replaced due to breakeages, delaminations, and problems with the firewire vent system.

Andy Irons gets 50 boards a year as do, I expect many other, pro's. They don't care if their boards break regularly !
