Hi everyone,

anyone here know much about the McCoy boards? In Particular the Nugget and the Astron Zot. I'm looking at getting either of them, but being that they're completely different from the norm have no idea how to size them, or what their individual characteristics are.

I'm 6'3", 100kg, 32yo with rooted shoulders. Average joe surfer, not ripping or anything, but hold my own. Just looking to catch more waves, have more fun, and have longer sessions. Normal waves I surf are anywhere from knee to head and a half high.

Currently riding a variety of shortboards ranging from a 509 firewire baked potato, to a 602 C5 hipster, a 605 high performance shorty, and a 606 Firewire Unibrow. The hipster and the HiPo board are too small for me now, and I mainly surf the BP.

Would I be looking at something around 7'2" with these McCoy boards? or is that waaaaaay too big

cheers for the info.

A friend of mine has a couple of Nuggets - a 6'6" and a 7'2". They are weird looking boards. I surf a variety of different craft so have no predjudice against weird looking boards, but these were really different. Anyway, I have surfed the 6'6" in waist high waves and was just amazed how good it went. Loose and drivey. It was an awesome board and has me seriously contemplating a McCoy for my next board.

They do have a lot of volume so maybe 7'2" for your waves is a little big, but you are bigger than both me and my mate at around 88kgs. Ring Geoff and talk to him. Rest assured the boards are beautifully finished and go well.

Got a mate that has a 6'6" nugget, loves it.

Paddles really well and ticks all the boxes for performance, he does not use any of his other boards now, swears by the thing in all metro waves.

surf with a bloke who is 62. he has nuggets and a zot. Oh is 80 odd kegs and his zot is 5''10. He can paddle into anything with ease and is wanting to go smaller. he likes his zot more than all the nuggets he owns. I have a 6'4 sitting here for a test drive...but I just got a new shorty so im just blasting along with that atm. I have never seen anyone surf them in a shred type manner, but I have seen them handle some very sketchy beachy barrels/closeouts with ease

The one I surfed was as high performance as any of my thin, narrow high performance boards. I am not a competition surfer but I can do a reo and hit the lip. I can't fault its performance as such, it just didn't have the same feel of sharpness as a HP and I am sure that slightly wooly feeling is wholly the extra volume in the foil and rails. Maybe it's because, for the most part, 21 year old rippers don't surf McCoys. And yep, my mate loves a barrel on his.

Sweet. Thanks for the replies. I spoke to Geoff today and he's suggested a minimum of a 7'6"!!! I will have to trust the man. Only down side is the nuggets have glassed on fins unless I go tufflite. But as I have a variety of boards anyway I'm thinking the Zot may be a go
