Does anyone know the rules regarding paddling a kack out to little island and anchoring in the channel while i have a surf? Are you required to have the full gammet of safety gear, flares, lifejacets etc and is any registration required?

I take it you mean Kyack ? Go for it , I dont believe there any rules against un motorised / powered vessels needing that gear. If not , its only illegal if ya get caught

I think he means Kayak

I use a 2hp motor behind my canadian canoe. You don't need a recreational skippers licence if the motor is below 6 hp.

Regarding what safety you should have check here:

http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/imarine/19089.asp

You would need an anchor anyway. Things may have changed in the last few years but to conform to the rules you may just need an approved life jacket, bailer and red and orange hand held flares.

I used to use a boat for transport out to surfing breaks a fair bit for a few years before the need to have a recreational skippers ticket. Got checked alot and these were the things they checked for everytime. Fire extinguisher wasn't nescessary with an outboard motor.

Yeah, I'd be a little scared without a decent boat to bolt to if^H^H when Mr. Pointer showed up.

Hmm - Sounds like a kayak may be better than a kack then...

Looks like the following is required for les than 2nm offshore and inside the EPIRB exemption zone:

1. Anchor - well, need that anyway
2. Flares (red and yellow)
3. Lifejacket

Thanks all, going to go and kack myself now...

If you need shark repellant:

1st = sharrrt

2nd = kaarrkk

3rd = faarrkkk with pants full of kaarrkkkk

4th = use repellant on shark while your yelling faarkkk with pants full of kaarrkk after mighty large shaartt

5th = paddle like faarrkkk with pants full of kaarrkkk hoping repellant didnt piss off the mighty big shark
