HEY BREEZERS. This topic does not consist of your regular surfing thread however it has come my attention that in the last week there has been approval from lotteries west and the Fremantle Town Council to fund a new skate park in the esplanade. This is a positive i believe. A high profile skate park with a high volumes of traffic cruising past allows the kids a chance to be free and let loose in the park. There is a movement gathering against the decision and a meeting on the 23rd of april at 7.00pm at Tannock Hall Notre Dame has been set for this group to air their concerns.
I hope that the kids get a chance to have a world class park built in a great location. if the old school and constant negative approach wins this one what hope do the kids have. As surfers we have eye on the world with particular attention to the ride. Living in the moment and allowing all the creative amongst us chance to show what they have.

Please share your opinions as I believe the negative approach to this decision reflects a old school approach similar to which surfers where subject to in the 70's.

Don't exactly know where that is, but I'm for the skate park. I lament the sterile suburbia that kids have to grow up in now.
When we were deviant little shts living in 'suburbia', we had a nearby beach, paddocks, and pine forests. We used to have 'ging fights' in the trees, hack up any kind of motorised vehicle to thrash around the paddocks, and made out with our first girl friends in the dunes somewhere on the beach.

Then our kids were like "bush, camping ,, no way, ants,, flies etc etc", "beach,, what about melanomas",, I want to play computer games. As to sex,, along comes aids,, and so they just have a million 'friends' who congregate.

Yeah, they should at least have a skate park..

Oh,, and in the 70's we didn't wait for councils and charities, we just did it,, sorry.. (before Nike)

Haha, I reckon some of us bigger kids have more than a passing interest in a Skate Park in Freo. Hopefully they'll build a decent closed bowl for the kids with mortgages and kids of our own :)
