Heading to Kuta Lombok area in July with my daughter and her boyfriend for a surfing hol. Looking to book some decent, clean mid-range accom for the 3 of us. Can anyone suggest something close to the beach?

Anybody had any experience with one or more of these places?

I guess it depends on what you want, personally we were after the cheapest comfortable rooms we could find.

I have stayed at:

Surfer's Inn: Not a bad place, rooms located around the pool, cheap 90 000 Rp has double or two single beds and pedestal fans that may or may not rattle, and a shower/toilet attachment basic and doable. VIP room 300 000 Rp has huge room with aircon, fancy shower, fridge etc. but we ended up moving out as there is no point having all the fruit if power keeps going out lol. I saw some nice mid-range rooms up the back. Having the pool and communal TV is good, I would stay there again in a cheap room.

G'day Inn: Havn't stayed there but he seems like a nice bloke.

There are two homestays on the bend heading to the beach as you head east, I think one had big rooms/units it seemed expensive. We stayed at the other one with 6 rooms all next to each other, wouldn't bother there again, it was a last resort.

Segare Enak: Spent a bit of time here rooms vary a bit in quality I think, ours was quite close to the front and nice for 80 000 Rp, bamboo walls whereas Surfers Inn was more of a concrete deal, Two beds, shower and toilet. Local wildlife will keep you company. :) Has internet cafe there, very central. Beware the huts on stilts up the back, they looked dodgy.

Novotel: Fancy, way out of the way so you would need to eat there or drive all the way back to Kuta to eat. OK if you were just going to stay at the hotel the whole time, but if you are surfing there is not much point as you wont be at the hotel much anyway.

I was there the July just been, accommodation will be quite full so book, but there didn't seem to be many more surfers in the water than the wet season.

Make sure you visit the green local food stall on the beach, it is just to the west(towards mawi) from surfer's inn on the beach and green in colour. Awesome Bakso soup for 5 000 Rp, there Es Campur is pretty awesome for dessert too.

Ashtari up on the hill do some amazing food with a cool view, owned by an Aussie couple.

PM if you want more info,

Enjoy
Matt

Cheers for the solid info Matt.

Am asking now as I want to book ahead as I expected it will be booked out in July. Surfers Inn is top of the list at the moment as others have recommended it as well.

Yeh you can't go too wrong with Surfer's Inn, the rooms in the back right hand corner looked the best, not sure what they were called.

If you get a/c there be aware if the power goes out you will have to manually switch the a/c back on again when power is restored. They had an ancient generator that caught fire last year when I was there. The pool is awesome,

Enjoy
