Super bank,is only super on a good swell!
So most of the time we fight the crowds
for waves,to many people waiting to take
off in a small area, back in the day we had
five take of points ad the fact that every
man and dog surfs now its like walking across
a highway!
Thanks mongo see you out there!

I remember as a grom (back in Nam)surfing a right hander inside the groin at north Kirra. Ahhhhhgh those were the days.I've never been barreled more anywhere else on a single wave to this day. WHen was the last time the southport seaway broke Mac???? Its a smoking left when its big enough.....
Tell ur son Its definatley true, Demand that he watch Sickjoy!!!

I grew up surfing on the gold coast, kirra was the jem.

Went back up there a year ago when a cyclone swell was forcast and was really pis#ed off. What the f#ck happend to this world re-knowen classic wave????

Most of us (older, late 30's )crew will remember the classic all time kirra line up and how we fought to save it from the developers who wanted to turn it into a harbour!!!
I was disscusted that they have killed this world class break and that their has been no massive protests.

Having traveled alot surfing over seas, every surfer you meet says"wow,I wish i lived near kirra, that looks like the awsome right barrel in the world", and it was a freak of nature break like pipe or j.bay or g-land and it should be preserved like bells has been.

I remember as a gromm watching rabbit, hodges, butto, luke and the boys getting shacked all the length of the point. They were great years of surfing.

I nearly cried when I turned up at kirra with a 6foot swell pumping and there was no fast grinding, heavey freight train kirra , but instead a "super gay bank"

Start pumping that sand north of little groin and let mother nature turn kirra back into kirra.

For the younger crew that have never surfed the "real" kirra, get a hold of some old surf vids and see what a world class freak of nature of a wave it was,no wave on earth breaks(well use to) like it.

Pi@sed off

Ok, havent been on this surfing forum before, but just saw what Bali has turned into. Now am really pi@sed offfffffffff.

I remember sleeping on the beach at dreamland and surfing balagin and bingin(spelling?)with no crew turning up,surfing with only our mates, till about 10am when the crew who partied on the bintangs and araack attacks turned up.And then if there was 3 other surfers in the water it was considered too crowded.

Now there are massive hotels and mega marts and sh#t built on and into the cliffs.

Camping at Desert point, sumbarrwa(perriscpoes, lakey peak, scars, super suck) and would be lucky to run into anyone else that was there for the surf.
Now I here that its not uncommon to have 200 peaople staying at Lakeys????

Im glad there is still one spot in indo that we head to thats world class that the mob hasent foundYeah, you know where Im talking about Tommy Barrel.Stop hanggen with Ross surfing then monster beasts in cold water and lets head to that secrete island in paradise. SSSHHHHHHHEven if Jack Mccoit(he he) has bought the land in front of the break he still dosent own it.HA HA

"the real kirra" before all the rock walls from duranbah to palm beach would have been a fantastic area of shifting sandbanks before the erosion from the artificial groins sent houses and roads into the sea.

feel priveliged that you experienced "the artificial kirra" in its bestest eighties prime, it won't happen again.

Just got back from a trip to Qld and surfed Rainbow last weekend when the king tides had put water back into rainbow and greenmount just like back in the days before the superbank wrecked it

Brought back sweet memories of long rides on cyclone swells in the 80's and early 90's

Ive surfed Kirra a few times. My first time was 15 years ago. It was heaven on earth. Like others I have had some of the best waves there. I even named my daughter Kirra
