Now on my second JS HyFi that has creased in 2ft Gold Coast beach break. After the first massive crease on my BlakBox2 model I decided (in what to appears to be a lapse of judgement) to buy another JS HyFi.Have to say I'm beyond disappointed in the build quality of these boards.

Well there's a lesson in that for all of us.
We've all had brain fart purchases though.

Checkout the lost carbon wraps - if they have the dimensions you're after

Build quality is sky high (for the expoxy end of the spectrum). Mind you they charge for it

Your JS look similar to the Stacey boards on the Gold Coast. Super brittle

Yep I am a mad lover of the old forget me nots. I have gone through about 7 in the last 18 months. Probably because I often set up camp in the impact zone of a notorious SW beachy. Although one time, I duck dove a 2fter in Perth, the lip landed on my back and the board snapped under neath me. I know your pain. Thankfully the FMN's are cheap as chips on gumtree.

I do one air a year or maybe two if I'm on a hot run, I don't notice 300-500grams of extra glass and cloth.
I can't afford hp boards anymore , they don't last.
The boards which I've procured off the rack recently which have lasted are FireWire, the lost range and everything else is custom. Really got into the almerrick range for a while but most of them are super light glass like the hyfi never would get more than a dozen surfs in decent waves before the damage became visible, pressure dents and compressions and within a few more surfs the creases.
One thing when buying second hand boards particularly light glass is if the prior rider rode it differently than you due to weight/height/skill/wave type etc etc than the glass has been stressed in a way which suits there surfing, as fibreglass cures and cures ( buy a board and put it on ice for a year before riding). The torsional stress of riding particularly with repeated moves ie: high speed floaters when a person than gets on that board and rides it half a foot forward..............el snappy.
This May assist in explaining why some of the forget me nots may of seemed to last a lot longer than others.
unfortunately with the high and I really hate to say this but what has happened is what the board is designed for. Light , fast and super easy to snap.
point of note is that both snapped in similar spots, do I think their glassing is great....... not great but passable,,,,, their blanks,,,, great blanks but super light and not real dense....

Unfortunately though their is nothing wrong with the build....

But then the question becomes, "from whom"?
My guy is out of action, and I pray to Huey that the next 'incident' doesn't render my silky slider inoperable, 'cos there's no manufacturer/businessman I know who can equal the build quality of a surfer/builder.

Js glassing policy is to do 1 layer of 4 Oz then proceed to sand the whole lot off. They're a disgrace. Creased a pu of theirs in shoulder high beachy

they changed the hyfi build and put a carbon strip on the deck .a long time ago now .. cause this crease happened to a lot of people and they were getting warranty claims .. maybe your boards are old stock . Google pics and you can see this .

Black box 2 was the most fragile board I'd ever bought. Vowed never to buy JS again

I recently bought a Pyzel, seems to have a really good glass job. I've surfed it in some pretty heavy waves, had a few heavy beatings, that would of probably snapped other boards and come away unscathed

Get a custom with a decent glass job. Zac Ogram is doing some fantastic HP shortboards and does his own glassing to make sure it's done properly.

How old is the board??

The same happened to me. I brought the black box 2 hyfi brand new and in a couple months the same thing.

I took pictures and wrote a email to js explaining what happened and how disappointed i was. For my surprise they understood and gave me a brand new one, but instead of a black box 2 the gave me the option to swap for a monsta box Hyfi. The monta box lasted me 2 year without nothing wrong other than your normal use and tear.

Maybe its worth sending then a formal complain.

Picked up a Black box 2 off gumtree a year and a half ago and it's still going strong. Really like it.
I've probably jinxed myself now though and will snap it on my next surf.

Have been told by a couple of different shapers that the glass job is only part of the story with the difference between a solid board and a flimsy one.

They have said that the blank has a lot to do it with it, quality of the blank and how much the stock blank has been chewed into to get your shape.

Best analogy was think of it like a loaf of bread that gets softer towards the middle, the more you take away from the blank the softer the foam is.

You can have the heaviest glass job in the world on it and still have issues with compression dings and creases.

Most local shapers I have met and know of use really good quality blanks and select the right blank for the board - I am a big believer to get a local made board from a well known shaper.

Last 3 surboards (fish, mini mal and mal) have all been from local well trusted shapers and the price was really competitive and they surfed really well for a long time.

Would never look back but thats just my opinion, sounds like there are some mass produced suppliers that sell strong boards out there, just have to know what you are in for.

Exactly...also if they are using ****ty blanks it doesn't help

The boards I used to get were just about bulletproof in comparison to pupe. I used to get like one ding a year in a bad year. Last year I switched to pupe and no ****, every two weeks all winter long I was doing ding repairs. Plus they look beat to hell really quickly. And that's from a manufacturer with a highly reputable glass job, apparently.

I still have a few of the old ones. Tried selling them but no-one was interested. They'd probably outlast a nuclear war.
