This might sound stupid, and I'm hardly a good surfer, but what's with the pros claiming things straight away. I would have preferred to see a little whack at the end to finish it. I reckon if there's rideable wave, you should lose points for not surfing it.

Sort of agree on that one.

Was it better than Ke11ys @ Bells??

Not sure Doggie - they look a bit diff to me -KS's one was more out the front of the wave and JJF was height wise massive. I think I prefer Slaters.

^ Tbh both are awesome, I just think JJs has the edge as he didnt land in the flats and kept going on the wave. Not sure if was that much higher?!?

Edit>> Just watched both back to back, JJF wins in the height but Ke11ys has alot of forward projection.

I agree PP, it was a huge air but one four second trick and not finishing the wave off doesn't deserve a 10 in my opinion but I know others won't agree.

Agree. One move should never score a ten.

I really liked how smooth it looked. He really just rolled it up and out

Agree more needs to be done on the wave though

If it wasn't a 10, imo it was a 9.8.. Was about the best one I've ever seen in a comp... And the landing was perfect... Seabass also got a few good ones in that heat was unlucky...

But IMO there is lots of overscoring, especially yesterday... 8 were being thrown out for some average waves.

JW was pulling some nice grabs. And ace Buchanan floaters were sweet 2

I was just watching some free surfing from the comp and the air reverse is getting a massive smash..I still like Kelly he mix's it up on waves

The other point was i forgot that JJF had his foot in that boot SO an even better move considering his injury..

I can't see why it wouldn't be a ten
The top 44 were calling it
Seabass was showing ten fingers and knew it
The judges had no hesitation
Pretty much the highest, cleanest alley oop ever
The only people that didn't think it was a ten was people on this thread
I think the only air that was better this year was Jelena jokic's, I mean Gabriel Medinas flip (his dad can be Damir)

Agree. One move should never score a ten.

Disagree

The judges have made it very clear that they are rewarding innovative surfing at this comp in particular @ Keramas.
They set the judging criteria , and Jon surfed to it. That was a 10 point wave based on degree of difficulty , size of maneuver , done in the critical part of the wave and his landing was clean and exiting towards the beach.
Were there any other airs performed that day , that comp , ANY comp that came close? YES Kelly's air at bells - another 10 pointer.

This is 2013 , not 2005 . What is possible now for surfing was still being played out on xbox tony hawk back then and I reckon the judges are right on the money rewarding maneuvers like this which pushes what's possible , and also is great for surfing as a spectator sport.

Go hard or go home

Well said KEARNSY, I didn't realise that the judges set that criteria for this comp in particular so I can see why they gave it a 10. I guess I'm still living in the past.

Good by you kearnsy. I love how the judges are scoring in comps lately and one big move can get big points......they set the criteria for each comp eg Fiji and chopes all about the tube and getting deep Gold Coast brazil n bali all about flair...big airs and massive hacks

Slater does it all, I useta think he got over scored as a younger man ( me not him) but farkehymen he gets better every year( did that beat the autobot mod thing!!!)

I love watching the pros go about their business even the over the top ridiculous claims are growin on me..even Kelly does a few

On another note who's been watching ry craiks show on fox? See the smokin gnaraloo and ex bad boy eagle..phil reads bomb
