This might sound stupid, and I'm hardly a good surfer, but what's with the pros claiming things straight away. I would have preferred to see a little whack at the end to finish it. I reckon if there's rideable wave, you should lose points for not surfing it.
I agree PP, it was a huge air but one four second trick and not finishing the wave off doesn't deserve a 10 in my opinion but I know others won't agree.
Agree. One move should never score a ten.
Disagree
The judges have made it very clear that they are rewarding innovative surfing at this comp in particular @ Keramas.
They set the judging criteria , and Jon surfed to it. That was a 10 point wave based on degree of difficulty , size of maneuver , done in the critical part of the wave and his landing was clean and exiting towards the beach.
Were there any other airs performed that day , that comp , ANY comp that came close? YES Kelly's air at bells - another 10 pointer.
This is 2013 , not 2005 . What is possible now for surfing was still being played out on xbox tony hawk back then and I reckon the judges are right on the money rewarding maneuvers like this which pushes what's possible , and also is great for surfing as a spectator sport.
