Having a look at the kite forum and an interesting topic is being discussed and not for the first time. It appears some of those boys don't receive much spousal/ life partner support in regard to their chosen pursuit. It got me thinking about our chosen favourite activity and the fact that it has never reared its ugly head in our forum as far as I know. To summarise it appears that many of them suffer from CWS (cranky wife syndrome) due to the time they spend flying their kites. Is this because most of us live in wave starved areas? It's obvious that these guys get wind almost every day so are able to indulge in their passion more than us. Anyone experienced surf related CWS and if so how do you treat this terrible condition? Interested to hear from the southerners and those that embark upon regular wave seeking missions.

Yes, I encounter it on a regular basis. After a couple of weeks of every second of daylight and some hours of darkness being at work and surfing it wears thin. Sometimes I just run out the door and deal with it later. But I've got an extremely tolerant one, so I'm lucky. CW knows what I'm like and mostly accepts it. I wouldn't, if it was reversed.

just to clarify, if like the kiting brothers we had near perfect conditions everyday like them would you blokes surf everyday until the sun went down? I know I probably would and as a result really test the limits of the wife's patience, as it stands she knows that when it's on I 'll surf no matter what's happening but it happens so rarely she's almost as stoked as I am!!

Nope,I'm extremely lucky. I also chose very well.
My hw would be extremely suss if I was not out chasing waves. It is only a few hours a day,and there are plenty more hours to do stuff together if we want.
Most times she will go jog along the beach,or grab a coffee. Life is good

I do, every day for weeks until the sun goes down, in not even close to perfect conditions. I have many multi-week runs, or some several weeks with just a day or two off.

Lise is pretty good but it probably helps that we met whilst living on The Rock and I was surfing or fishing most every day. As it stands she's very aware that I'm much easier to deal with when I'm getting wet than not.

I don't mean to be a crunt but....

I must have it easy then... SW (Surfer Wife) gets out there as much as I do. Never get an argument about going unless we have something else we need to do

Probably not so much the actual surfing that initiates the CWS its the tendency to just want to relax and put the feet up after a good wave, and if you score a good run of swell this might go on for a week or so.The dog walking can wait, the lawn can wait, in fact everything else can wait but I will be up 40 min before sunrise to go for a surf ha ha

The thing with kiters is the probably only get 3 or 4 months of consistent "kiting wind" every year over summer. They probably feel they need to go everry day during this time to get the yearly fix. With surfing you can do it all year round.

If you had a quiver, a SUP, a kite and a kayak would permanently be in the bad books..but geez would be fit as a fiddle!

No wifes cool...she films me on holidays & expects I'll be surfing when the swells on...but I'm not like bailing off for the weekend without her. If I do head off somewhere I'll bring her along & try & do something she enjoys after I get waves. Like a winery, nice lunch, touristy thing/recreational activity etc
