anyone know whether the suction type camera mounts withstand a bit of a pounding or are the FCS fixtures the best way to go? got a quote on doing the FCS thing and it was a bit too much.

The suction mount will not stand up to a pounding in the surf at all!!!

How much were you quoted for FCS install. Should be pretty cheap as it is only a single FCS plug which does not need truing or aligning for fin placement.

Pretty easy to do it yourself with a hole saw that fits onto a normal drill. Use epoxy resin on both polyester and epoxy boards for added strength.

See here for some tips:

Longboards Scarborough will do it for $45, perhaps cheaper if you buy the camera there.

Make sure its a rear plug as well or the camera will be on a slight angle.

You are right there doggie but you might want to refer to it as a centre. The plugs come as centers with a C on them and rails with a R on them. Rear could add confusion.

True, a rear on a quad would be the same as a front

Ok, I've just come into ownership of a GoPro. Watched a few vids and realise that different angles are the go so am thinking of putting in a FCS plug on the rear of my board as well as having the supplied 3M mount on the front (also developing a shoulder mount).

Question: has anyone here used the FCS mount on the rear of there board? If so what is the recommended position? Any issues with it getting in the way? Snags with the leggie etc.

I'm thinking for right handers (natural foot), putting the FCS plug on the rear left hand side of the board slightly angled towards the right.
