Cheers for the update Spot. Im taking it as really good news. Great to see its not all about money and exposure. At the end of the day thier still 17years behind Billabong who ran the first comp there back in 1992.

Good result. As far as i know the camps in that area don't need the exposure. I'm the first to bag the surf companies for thier ideas of promotion and what apears to be money minded decisions but i must admit I bought a couple of rip curl wetties over the last 6 months and the bomb range are the best suits i have ever come accross. Warm flexable comfort.

In my opinion, the place is already very crowded in and out of the water and surely the exposure will inevitably worsen this problem.
Add to this the sensitivity of the area and Rip Curl's previous track record with 'The Search' concept (eg. Mexico) and lack of commitment to the enviromental evaluation report, I really can't see much to gain.
If you want to see genuinely good surfing up there you dont need to send the pro tour, all you need to do is put in the time there.

The season isnt that long. The last thing you need is three weeks of it taken up by a bunch of competitive minded folk and there hangers. In the end what is there to gain from it. Very little for the average bloke. I wonder if the problems with cloud break in Fiji started with the influence of money crowds and big personalities? Now you cant even go there if you want to.

A big comp at a place like bells or margret river doesnt seem to have such an affect on the locals or impact the enviroment as much or maybe it does. i would be darks as if a large crew rocked up at my local and said you cant surf there for two weeks. Although at my local there proberbally wouldn't be any waves anyhow.

Pro surfing seems ok Its cool to watch on the tele but if it disappeared who would loose out. proberbaly no one.

So if an Australian wins the world championship its good (pro surfing) but if they dont its bad? Thats what it sounds like.
I must admit I get P#ssed of when there is a comp @ the spot (secret spot) lol, so then I go find somwhere else to surf, how about Snapper when the tour is there, how many people are p#ssed of by this and more people surf there I think??
