Coreyb,

Check out Bobbys camp on this site or just do a google search mate theres heaps of info....... www.waterwaystravel.com/destination/surf-bali-bobbys-g-land-surf-camp/

The waves are real good thought they can get a little scary/ heavy (depending on your view on scary i guess)
I was there a few years ago and scored waves 7 days out of 10 above 6 foot great trip and will deff head out there again sometime.....
There a few other good surf forums that aint got the attitude of this one and guys give out some good info rather than ranting.

Hope you get there and score some good waves!

take the fast boat both ways. I took the overnight bus and was a mistake. Frightening trip at 200kmh on 2 lane road in the middle of the night with heavy traffic and open drains.

Wasted the first day catching up on sleep.

Big surf but there are smaller spots down the bottom of the bay called tiger tracks.

I didnt stay at Bobbys but further up the point near the viewing platform, I cant remember the name, office was on Poppies lane.

Do it!!

take the boat as torch says.

Rely on the fact that if there are no waves in G-land ,you can be pretty sure that are its flat everywhere!

Sure as s.h.i.t you will get a couple on the head normally when you are least expecting it (or wanting it)

i could never see the point in going to tiger tracks ............and the videos i saw didn't diminish this opinion .......so i didn't

used to work best once there was some wind on it held the sections up better!

check all down the line by with tom carroll some of the best surfing there (when he wasn't busy dropping in on people)
or tubular swells by jack mccoy great footage of peter mccabe and gerry lopez early days
read this article www.baliwaves.com/2007/01/peter-mccabe/

don't wear green boardshorts (roro kedul........ look it up)

my icon is from the great swell of 94(just bull****ting)

I just got back.. Bobby's is the nicest camp.. I checked out all 3 and would stay at Bobby's if I went back.... Take bigger boards built for speed... Take a gun, take at least 3 boards... Don't go undergunned.. I went undergunned and it sucked... It's awesome but it can get scary.... Get the fast boat, don't overland, it's not worth the extra money you'll save.... Did I say don't go undergunned?

6 people?
I'm glad you're keeping such accurate records.

More astonishing is the fact that you have met (and surfed with) all the members of this site. It is quite the accomplishment. No, really, it is.

Given that you couple someone's ability to surf with them posting great posts, and given the history of all your posts, I am therefore going to categorize you with us non-surfers. How does it feel to be one of us? Oh and while you're here, this arse isn't going to lick itself......I tried.

I'd like to hear what quivers people surf there. What constitutes "undergunned" Benny? What boards did you have there?

I was t the end of my trip and only had a 5'10. Saying that I'm only 5'4 and65 kg.... If I went back I'd take a 6'3 and a 6'7 rounded pin, or quads. If you like smaller boards then take quads... Anything that's gonna get you down the line fast... Lock and load...

Yep i took 5'9 (regular board and didnt use it) also had 6'2 6'5 6'9, Mostly rode the 6'5 you deff need that speed on the runners........ saying that alot of guys are riding shorter and shorter boards every year and they seem to get on ok i guess.... Im just having a quad made for my next trip so will see the difference for myself hoping it works good!

Enjoy mate!

Mate of mine was there a while back and would talk of this little Japanese bloke charging on his 7'2. Shorter boards may be the trend and KS might be on his 5'9, but for us mere mortals, length is good when it's big

Get in contact with Slim of baliwaves.com he can get you a discount for the fastboat at the end of Jalan Segara Tuban. Flight to Bali, taxi to Tuban staying overnight somewhere like the Rama & then a short walk down to the beach through the carpark over the road from the Green Garden Spa & Resort, a little way round to the right at the road bend, not straight down the path on the corner. Everyone meets at the little warung on the other side of that carpark & heads off just after sunrise at about 6am...cheers

My daughter and I went in May for an early season session. Stayed at Joyo's which, on appearances, doesn't look as nice as Bobby's but is quite a bit cheaper as their deals includes the boat transfer. As others have said, the overland xfer is pretty hard core these days.

I plan to go back again next year and will stay at Joyo's again. Great food and really nice people. The camp is in a great position down the bay and sits opposite Speedies. 1 minute walk down to the beach and courtesy boat which will take you anywhere you want to surf depending on tide.

I travelled with a 6'3" and 6'8" which suited very well. Early season trades didn't co-operate and had some onshore conditions. Have heard that the trades have not been as good early this year as they should be. G-Land definitely needs the SE trade on it. Even when glassy it is still not as good as when there is a nice offshore holding it up.

August will be busy.

I was going every year but haven't been for a while. I would pack a gun even if its an old one. It pays to have a good paddler in the quiver and a spare board comes in handy. Check out Kongs on the lower tide. A lot of guys hang further down and you can often surf up there by yourself. Its an easy drift down the point if you want to. If it gets really small you can surf a right up the top end of the point. Its not the wave you travel there for but beats hanging with the crew all day in camp. Get ready for the tube of your life. G land express!

Yes Cory Take a big gun I surf a 7-6 at outside bomb at Kongs 6+ and hang with the Hawaii boyz on there 8ft + boards & they get every good wave that comes through with everyone else struggling on short boards. Unless you are a Kelly or JohnJohn. As every one has said can get big with lots of drift down reef - 4-6ft speedies on mid short board on mid tide is epic just watch out for coral heads sucking dry as tide drops out. Been there 3 times in August /Sept first time in 84 for 3 weeks ( showing my age) can get VERY big & heavy that time of year - just pick your tides so high is middle of day with offshore winds picking up- doesn't like very low tides as coral is nasty & shallow through speedies.
