Greetings,

I have a mate's wedding in Bali early October.

Haven't been to either before, but i'm thinking a cheeky week in either G-Land or Lombok after the wedding may be the go.

What are people's opinions on swell size, winds etc at both places at this time of year?
Too late in the season for G-Land or still good?

Any recommendations for accommodation at either location?

Cheers in advance

Not ideal for either Mick, but that could mean crowds are down too. I don't think anything could ever drag me back to DP, really fickle and the WWW has ensured that when it's on every mofo and their dog knows about it and is there to wreak havoc. At least G-Land has a couple of other options.
If it were me I'd be looking towards South Sumatra, Java, Sumbawa or Timor. Timor is sick but the swell window can be a bit narrow at that time of year.

What about sumbawa lakey peak...good in the cross over season plus you have periscopes just down the road.

cheers lads,

I figured it could be a bit iffy.
How bout the Kuta (Lombok) area. I've been doing a bit of research and it sounds a bit fickle and a lot of driving/biking?

Yeah I was thinking of Sumbawa as well. Seems like a good compromise. It's just another ferry ride from Lombok no? You guys usually boat or fly?

Hi Mick, I wouldn't rule G-Land out, it is a 2-3hr fast boat from Kuta. They are an hour behind Bali time so you will be there for Breakfast and surf for the remainder of your first day.
I went last year in August and stayed at Joyos , When I got back, I frequented Joyos website for daily surf reports and the swell, conditions and crowd was still good in October. Just a thought.
This is an extract from Nov last year:
G-land Surf Report 10th Nov 2013 9am
Surf 4-5ft head high
Nice offshore wind
No crowds.
Good swell & winds predicted 13th till 22 Nov.
Book now at Joyos Gland office for late session deals.

I have flown and caught ferry from Bali to Sumbawa. Unless you like dodgy airlines with crap safety rating would recommend the ferry.

There's also a bunch of charter boats that run out of Bali, that are good value for money. I did a 7 day trip in Mid Oct last year, only 5 of us onboard!
We scored perfect 4-6ft DP. Great waves at inside Ekkas, as well as cranking super sucks and scar reef! Was a bit out of my league and lost a bit of bark tho!
Once we left Lembongan and DP, the crowds weren't a factor.

cheers for the responses everyone,

Interesting food for thought.

The cheap charter from Bali is one I hadn't thought of, but sounds promising.

I think the -wait until I'm about to leave, or check the forecast when I'm there approach is a good one.
