Hey everyone

I have been skating a loose carver skateboard for a year and love it. Now I want to get into surfing.I have decided I want a softboard but not sure which one to go with. I am 32 years old, 6 feet tall and weigh 87kg.

Here are the three I am considering:

www.surfstitch.com/boardsports/surf/boards/softboards

www.surfstitch.com/boardsports/surf/boards/softboards

www.surfstitch.com/boardsports/surf/boards/softboards

I just want something that's nice and light to carry and something that is hard to break/ding. If my fibreglass board required a repair, that would probably be enough to stop me surfing haha. I've also heard softboards are excellent for beginners and some expert surfers also say they don't mind the odd ride on a softboard for a bit of fun.

So, does one of the above hit the mark or should I consider something else?

If you're licensed to kill you'll be wanting a SUP.

The 7'er seems big enough, unless you plan to longboard.

Shame about the colour though, eh?

And when you think you've progressed beyond it, don't dismiss it, put it away thoughtfully, and in the future you'll come back to it in puss conditions and have a blast.

Thanks mate. As long as I can catch waves on the 7'. I wasnt sure if the 8' would be a lot easier or not?

I have a 7ft softech and it gets way Moore use than I ever had planned for it.

It is a wave catching machine. Take the fins out and have a blast as well.

Once you go iver 7' they get bendy through the middle.

Buster is on the money as well

Thanks chrispy. I was leaning toward the 7' odysea log because I have read so many good things about it.

But now you've thrown a spanner in the works haha.

Well I went the 8' log.

I'm mainly interested in just longboarding and not so much manoeuvrability. If I get better I can always go a firewire baked potato in the future or something.

So next questions:

1. 9ft leash ok? I assume that is the correct size for a 8' board?
2. Do odysea logs need waxing?
3. Do odysea logs need a traction pad?

That's it.
Thanks guys

Carver skateboard mate. Doesnt mean ive surfed before. I live 30min from beach so yes a ding would be enough to say "fook it", hence why i was looking at softboards. But everyone is telling me to go fibreglass and that red malibu is the one my mate recommended. Im as manly as they come mate.

Seriously mate you can't surf so I wouldn't bother over analyzing boards, it's not going to make any difference to you. Just get one with plenty of volume that you can have fun with. Don't spend a dick load of cash

Go the Soft top.

#1: you don't have to worry too much about dings

#2: you'll be safer with it

#3: others around you will be safer

#4: If this is how you commit to waves you won't need a board anyway ??

Agent009 about the leash just get the thickest one you can afford

The board just needs to be big as well to float you and be a stable plateform to start with no point making it hard.

As for the wind ups breathe easy just black writing on a screen
