hey everyone

I rode a vanguard FST yesterday and was instantly hooked on it. I had a look on firewires website and found that they do grom sizes cheap and i am now considering buying one. Has anyone rode both the constructions offered (FST and LFT)? which construction is stronger and more durable? and any thoughts on the board and the constructions would be great?

I am yet to ride or own an LFT but am a big fan of the FST. Its treated me well over the years.

I am yet to ride or own an LFT but am a big fan of the FST. Its treated me well over the years.

Same Same FST has been strong as

I have firewire boards in all constructions.

Rapid fire is the lightest and seems most prone to damage.

LFT is also quite light, quite responsive, seems more durable than rapid fire time will tell as the board is quite new.

FST super strong, really responsive but the heaviest of the three, but still very light.

I think they all surf quite well and like each of them. Guess it comes down to your budget and how long you want the board to last. I have had FST boards last 6 years in quite good shape until they finally snap.

The other option is to check out the Star Surf demo day this Sat and Sun. Im not sure but you'd guess they would have the different constructions on demo also..

Razz how do you go duck diving your board ?


Thinking of buying the same or a Vader I currently surf around the 40 litre mark

Duck divings not too bad I use me foot on the tail pad and hands on the rails ( I'm a bit of a weirdo like that) but you can get deep. With this board and length it's good, even though the volume is high it may be cause its short it's not too bad. I too have seen this vader they speak of. I want to have a go on one. The vanguard is good in some barrels but I reckon the tail on the vader would be better.

Yeah the nose can be a bit of a pain to duck dive but the board duck dives the same as maybe a standard 66,
I'm 100 kg but when I got it was bout 105 110.
Yeah I made the drop I got the whole sequence for proof cause the lads never believe me aye
Can someone buy the vader I want a write up on it before I buy one. Anyone surely someone's buying a board soon... I know star would get one in to buy but I'd like to see one in real life before ordering one sight unseen

I'd love to hear a review of the fader too. Interested to hear how it goes before buying. I have ridden the old construction and enjoyed but prefer pu for the flex

Please what you mean about the tail ? Is it too wide i presume...go deeper cause i'm really into it, your reply will be an excellent feed back for my own research as shaper of my son' board and i'm surfing myself tomo vanguard style shortSUP, involving it just for fun.
