Gday All

Just wanting any feedback on the Firewire Dominator say 6'8"or 6'10". Looking at getting one and reviews I have read have been good but thought I would check it out on here as well.

Any comments welcome

Hey mate, what's your weight and ability? I have a fair bit of experience with firewires. 608 is massive and for someone around 120kg

Based on that I'd say a 604 to 606. I'm only 33 but range between 95 and 100kg and 604 would be my max size. You can jump on the FireWire forum and hit up Keith. He's WA based (like me) about 90kg and similar age to yourself.

I am about your age/weight/ability,
I had 6'4 Dom and liked it. Wouldn't go bigger. Even 6'4s thickness 2 3/4 was bit too much for me, wish it was 2 5/8

They look overly thick in the tail too me. I like the look of the unibrow better.

I would think the 608 0r 610 would be massive. Way too big. Im 98 kilos and surf a 602 but honestly would like to try a 604 currently. The 602 has enough float, but paddling still feels slow and cumbersome. I have found i like it but its never blown my socks of and considering the rave reviews they get, maybe its not the right size for me. Id also be keen to try a Spitfire, similar design but with a thinner tail.

My old board was a bit under volume for me so Ive done the same, gone from 28lt to 31lt, basically the same shape but blown up a bit, works well

I surfed a 6'4 Dom in Phuket in waist to shoulder waves. I'm 80kg's & it had heaps of float. The volume of anything larger than a 6'4 would not be beneficial to you in my opinion. Even the 6'4 was a little cumbersome in high speed cut backs. If you want your board to be a little more of an allrounder go a 6 or 6'2. But if your chasing more volume for summer, go the 6'4.

Also consider a Katana Scud if your in Perth, they hide away a lot of volume also in a similar construction. You might even be able to demo one.

Talking about Katana boards this looked alright. I have no idea who it is but just thought it worth sharing..
If it had been a slightly bigger id snap it up.. But think it would have a little less than my 602 dom..

Bit late to the party, but better late than never, i had a 6'8 Dom that i loved, i have also had a 6'6 Dom that was so so, and a 6'4 Dom that i rode 3 times and sold. The 6'6 at 45lts was the closest to my ideal volume, but after riding Tomo's felt boring and slow. I dont think the Dom is a very good small wave board, thats why i enjoyed the extra float of the 6'8 in bigger, flatter waves, and also fun as a mini mal in small waves.
Probably not its intended purpose. A small Dom if ridden energetically in small good shaped waves probably goes well, but in WA, those sort of waves are not in abundance.
I think the Spitfire would be a better alternative (i have a 6'8 spit) but really i cant recommend anything other than the Tomo range if you wanted a high volume board to really improve your surfing. The Evo now has 2 bigger sizes in the range, a 6'2 and 6'4. You cant go wrong. But at your weight and age a 5'10 or 6'0 would do the job. I ride the 44lt 6'0 at 95kg and 56yrs.
