I'm getting a 6'4" board made with FCS II fin set up. Am looking at two sets of fins for that, one for a trip to indo, the other for Sunshine Coast beachies. I also have a 6'10" semi-gun, that I'm not sure about what would be the best fins for that board? Have been to a few shops, but not real sure about advice from rugrats, that don't look like they've travelled to the next each let alone surfed a solid reef break...

I am using the large Performers. they work for me and all I surf is reefs. What's a beachie?

I tried the mediums but they didn't have enough drive for me. Using the fins in a quad set up. I like big fins though. 6'2 and 90kgs.

Quad or thruster and what's your weight?

Forgot to mention the fins are in a 7' semi-gun thing.

Pretty much impossible to answer with so many variables of board design & personal preference on drive vs release...

If you'd said, hey I ordered this popout, I weigh X amount & surf these kinda waves.

People might have a chance of regurgitating some kind of BS for ya to sheep onto...if your board has sharp rails, more rail line & single into double concave it might go alright with smaller fins...or not


You've put your trust in a bloke to build you a custom surfboard...go with whatever he recommends you.

Most people are of the opinion that a bigger bloke needs bigger fins, bigger fins for bigger waves etc . I follow the NC school of thought that a bigger tail needs bigger fins as there is more surface area. I ride smaller fins on my pulled in tails and bigger on the fatter tails - personally I run thrusters with lots of rake as I like that feel. On quads I like them more upright. Each to their own though. When its bigger you are generally using a bigger board with a more refined / smaller tail area and so you do not need as much fin to control your board.

What I find is, a board has an ideal fin set up, once you find that, then leave it. Changing fins for different waves is a bit of a fallacy imo.

Sorry, I thought I replied to this last night. I'm 6'7" and weigh about 93-95kg. Both boards are thrusters. In prep for the Indo trip I have found an old set of G7000 fcs fins and some cheap 'Raptor' branded R5 fins. I also have some Raptor R3s available, but I'm guessing they are too small and too flexible for the Grajagan trip?

Give up on the fins and get bigger boards.

The Shapers S9 is "currently unavailable". Bummer.

AMs are good for everything. can't go wrong. get AM2s from the Shapers.
