Hi Guys,

So I have now been living in Perth for just over a year, moved from the sunshine state, and surfing as much as humanley possible. It's with deep regret I say....that it is not very often i get to have a good surf, due to the lack of ****ing everything in Perth. It seems its eithier a lack of swell, too much wind... combination of both, its onshore....or its like D-Bah except concentrated on one peak!

I dont really know any body in Perth that surf's, or is willing to go surf different spots with me at least. So if anyone is looking for company up or down the coast, day trips, some exploring offshore etc, feel free to give me a heads up! Would love to explore the surf WA has on offer.

Atm, i reguarly (as much as possible) surf derr's, spot, trigg, toms, some reefs (when mate is willing to take out his boat), but would love to learn of more breaks and explore further afield.

For example when conditions turn on.... i really want to know where to head... Not knowing anybody in this state... leaves you in the dark a little bit... and 5 hours to margs bymyself...well i'd probably fall asleep at the wheel on the way home.

Anyway, feel free to get in contact if you can help us out

Cheers,

Scott

Perth would be the best city ever... if it wasnt for the lack of surf. Even in Brissy your only 40-60 mins away from great waves that are consistent. In perth, the problem is consistency and kooks!

Stagwag dont bother looking mate. There are no waves north or south of Perth or anywhere in WA . Your best bet would be to head back to Brissie.

I dont really understand why guys would be pissed of at me naming a spot. Those who dont know the spots that someone name's, have about as much clue of where they are as anyone else who doesnt know anything. At the end of the day its the location of a spot which is important not to name. For example if i told you i surfed doglegs.... you would have no idea where that is. ( becuase i made it up)

All i'm asking for is a surf buddy or a bit of a point in the right direction.

Again... I agree with what your saying and i would never give away any of the secret spots that i surf... all the spots i named were found long ago and can be found by a simple google search. What I said woould never affect the crowd factor..
If however,
I said, trigg is pumping get down there now....That might affect the numbers.

At the same time mate, there are most likely alot of people new to surfing or surfing tourists visiting this site. It's the net after all and coupled with the ability to google any spots you named, it's best not to name places. I've been on both sides of the boat and hated when some new guys turned up at a break I was on/ googled a spot that was named that I never knew which I plan on heading to.

It's just respect to us guys over here because like you said, we rarely get good conditions for surf and when it's ripping, you don't want everyone suddenly packed where you are.

^ basically sums it up. I've been guilty of naming spots by accident a few times and copped the bollocking I deserved.

The spots in Perth are not secret by any means, but we tend not to mention them, especially when they're getting waves. We all kind of know what spot each other is talking about but the anonymous blow ins to this forum wouldn't and that's how it should stay

There's nothing worse than being almost alone out on a good line up and seeing the droves of people doing up their wetties and leashes on the beach after word got around. I wish you could jam all phone calls and txts from the beach carparks

Okay... I did not give any spot 'away' did I?

The surf is that bad were bitching over me naming a few places. I should just stick by myself and not have bothered trying to contact people here. Seems ridiculous! Encase you or anyone else didn't know, i was the guy that let the cat out of the bag about snapper rocks!

No need to get testy, just folk giving you some advice on how things work on Seabreeze.. Nothing malicious but if you don't like the way it works than don't let the door hit you're arse on the way out

Just kidding Stagwag.. We have talked about meet and greets a few times but i think Doggie actually has multiple person issues and is about 5 different people on here.

Hey Stagwag,

That pretty much sums up Perth, Perths not known for its consistent surf and even the offshore reefs require swell tide and wind conditions to line up (as Zuke can attest to). Sounds like you know the better spots around town to check out. Now its just a matter of doing the time and getting to know them.

Just like fishing spots it takes a few years to build up that knowledge of which spots will work best on what moon phase.

Some of the mentioned breaks do turn it on and do at times have low crowds just got to wait for that blue moon...

Other than that enjoy the adventure of searching the coast, get into other water sports that compliment Perths conditions and be prepared to do a bit of driving.

cheers

all I can say is you need to explore and some days when its on you will know some spots that have very few crew, they are there. There's a spot I check in the metro very few will find or even think about that will only work when all the varibles line up, its not a flash wave & not that big but it's clean and sheltered on a howlin s/w. I have only had it twice in the last 6 -7 years but it,s there sometimes on big s/w storms and Im not gunna share because the other 3 or 4 that know would skin me.

SNIP....... get into other water sports that compliment Perths conditions....SNIP

Possibly the most helpful suggestion to your challenge. Perth and immediate surrounds are incredibly fickle.....you may very occasionally get a decent long period swell, but the wind will be wrong, or the tide will be wrong. Throw into this combination the fact that 98% of the time the banks around Perth and immediate surrounds are non existent and the reef breaks have been showing poor form for at least a decade due to sand movement.
Then, on the very very rare days where the above 3 factors compliment each other, you will get the crowds. I think this is largely because so many people in Perth will surf out of habit/desperation even if there is a sniff of swell on the horizon. If it looks like it may be shoulder to head high, sweet jeebus look out. Pretty much the supply of waves is hopelessly outstripped by the demand for waves.

The flipside is Perth has wind.....typically lots of wind or no wind but no swell either. I can fully understand why people sail, kitesurf ,windsurf, freedive, scuba dive or sea kayak or in Perth and immediate surrounds.

EDIT: Given that there is little or no surf 355 days of the year in Perth and surrounds, plus the fact that the past decade has seen a lot more people take up surfing as a pastime has meant that the crowds have increased between the Capes as well as people realise that Perth contains a handful of 'novelty' waves. ,'novel' in that they rarely break (ie Trigg Point, 1st, 2nd and 3rd carparks etc).

Dont worry about the secrecy shown by these seabreezers stagwag, naming S****ty perth waves shouldn't bother anyone, hell everyone knows pretty well all the waves down here and naming them does not really contribute to crowd factors. If you surf a place enough you will know where to sit and which waves to catch anyway. Give it a month or two and WA will be exposed again in the surf mags after the margs contest. Does not make much diff at all. Hope you get some waves and fellas, share the feeling ey.

Flame suit on!!
