I have just moved back over east from the west coast i thought I would share my observations and differences
The best in the west is
The quality of waves when it's on
More big waves and power
Proximity to Indo
More cashed up Bogans
As for the East
More consistent meaning you can usually find somewhere to surf without having to drive 3 hrs
Better surfers, I think the Goldie has more pro surfers per square metre than any place on earth
More surf spots closer together
Easier to get around, for some reason Perth drivers love to camp out in the right hand lane which adds to the congestion
Better market for second hand boards, Cheaper as well
More options for holidays rather than flipping a coin between Bali and down Sth

I dont think anything would be better than Bigger waves with more quality
That's why the west will always have it over the Eastern states

The West is terrible for surf...EVERYONE in WA should move over to the East...I'll stay back and hold the fort.

Fair dinkum, the west coast SUX, only get waves up north in winter and half the time it's blowin onshore, down south in winter it's worse, in summer down there it's ok for a couple of hours in the morning before the southerly comes in then it's all over.

the more crew who move to the east coast the better in my opinion.
the beauty of west oz is its isolation.
Who really wants to pull up at a break to see 300 people then look 50 metres left or right to see 300 on each peak, jam that up your a#$.
lived on the goldy for 6 months, party scene was great chicks were hot thats about all it had going for it. road trip crowds still had big numbers in the water.
West Oz = good fun hitting the road with some mates finding a spot away from the masses down or even UP the coast and surfing with limited numbers, you just need to know where to look, even when the breeze is in, and be willing to venture outside the "box".

QLD has great surf and you can waves without crowds ect but I do like the WA surf scene, its a bit more laid back then the east coast imo.

Absolutely...why any surfer would want to stay here is beyond me.
I really think every surfer should just head east...it would be in their best interest to be sure.

It really is. No fish to catch, no waves to ride and the sun never comes out.
...and the girls are hideous here.

Yesum...it sure does suck here.

I wonder if I've got enough fuel in the tank to go north and check out RB...never mind...that place sucks too.

Both have their appeal to me. Born in WA and spent the first 30 years of my life there surfing most days. Spent the last 15 years on the East Coast in Sydney and now on the Goldy. So here is my take;
West
Pros
-Bigger more powerful waves
-Less crowds
-Pro surfers are scarce
Cons
-Cold winters down south
-WIND!!!!
-Travel factor

East
Pros
-More consistent surf
-Surfing in boardies most of the year (GC anyway)
-Proximity to quality surf
Cons
-Insane crowds at the main spots (I find uncrowded beachies elsewhere)
-Tourists with NFI causing carnage
-high % of awesome surfers

I am lucky as have the best of both worlds, my folks and bro live at Dunsborough so have it sweet for trips back West.
