Has anybody bought a board from this guy?

I like the idea of it... a board for small surf days at a good price but I'm unconvinced by the 'make myself' and 'Oz made' and mysteriously doesn't use the 'made in Oz' badge any more - anyone know if they are any good or cheap imports?

I thought it was interesting that he "no longer" uses the Australian made logo, so I did some digging...

Frequently asked questions

How can I use the 'Australian Made' logo on my products?

The Australian Made green and gold logo was launched by the Federal Government in 1986. Since 1999 it has been administered by Australian Made Campaign Limited (AMCL), a not-for-profit public company established by the Australian and state and territory chambers of commerce. It is the most widely recognised and trusted product symbol for Australian products.

To qualify to use the logo, products must comply with the country of origin provisions of the Trade Practices Act, i.e. products must be substantially transformed in Australia, with at least 50 per cent of the cost of production being incurred in Australia.

To use the logo, you must apply to AMCL for a licence for your products. For more information, go to www.australianmade.com.au or call 1800 350 520

Oh and the kicker? The price to use the logo (this is for the Australian grown, could not find other details):

The licence fee is based on your estimated annual turnover for your products - for turnover up to $250,000 per annum, the minimum fee is $250 (plus $25 GST). Over $250,000 turnover, the fee is calculated at 0.1% ($1 per thousand) of turnover, up to a maximum of $20,000. So, if your turnover is $500,000, the fee would be $500 plus $50 GST.

Sounds like a great way to make money - invent a standard, trademark it and sell the rights for use.

What a rip...

Exactly what the guy selling these boards has just told me - he got in trouble for using it without registering to do so so has stopped using it.

I'm inclined to think it might be legit given the amount of positive feedback he has (unless he is clever and uses dodgy accounts for feedback).

Whether the boards are any good or not is a different question I guess!
