Well after having Scarbs to Trigg closed on friday because one of the beacons 1.5km away was triggered. I would like a bit more info on this. Here is a link to a map of where the beacons are:

http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/Documents/shark_hazard/shark_monitoring_network_metro.pdf

So they can detect a shark from 300m to 400m away so that places the shark as close as ~1.1km away and as far as 1.9km. At that distance does it really matter, can they tell which direction the shark is swimming?

We were also told that we can be arrested now, how true is this? Is there a law in place? Or is this just another use of fear to control the population? If I have a surfsave device fitted am I excempt? Can they arrest the people that park up their boats off a popular beach and start fishing, burling up the water?

I would like to know is there anyone with common sense out there that can enlighten us on the issue, even if it's a "I don't know".

Although, yesterday I was told that there were two sharks "operating" off Scarbs, like they need scalpels now

The distance that Fisheries say they can detect a shark from is being challenged in court. Its more like they have to swim half the distance closer than claimed.

Also the signal goes via, Canada first, Canberra and then to Perth.

The only real direct warning system is Of Mullaloo. That was put in privately and it sends a direct signal to the surf club.

Be careful Carlo, this is what got me started and once you realise its all just shadows and mirrors, its hard to let go

Maybe so, but Canada, Canberra, Perth didn't know that.

Can you imagine if the barman at your local pub rang the police one Friday afternoon and said "One of my customers has just left and got into his car - he's way too drunk to be driving home!"?

Do you reckon the police would close all roads nearby as a precaution because a drink driver has been sighted in the area?
