in case we needed any more proof that surfing has sold out, well this takes the cake. this is the last thing surfing needs, exposure to billions more people in an increasingly wealthy nation. can you imagine surfing in a partly landlocked country of 130,000,000 people? obviously it wont be much fun once it takes off, they will travel to places with less crowded better quality waves. At least they will be able to get their gear cheaply as everything is made in china already
I don't think surfing will be as big over there as you would imagine, not for quite sometime anyway. It would probably be a rich mans sport over there any way, at the moment I think there to busy making more money and taking over the world.
I'd be surprised if any of the surfers in the pic are Chinese. It was an ISA comp. An Aussie won it.
Interesting really, maybe Hainan Island would be worth a visit, I know a few guys who went last year for the ASP comp and said it was quite nice, good resort, good waves.
Taiwan also has some good waves, really good waves.
