Okay so this morning was cold on the feet and have mostly been surfing rocks lately so i think its time for some foot protection.

They say to buy two sizes too small but i'm struggling with a broken toe. Its going on for over a year and i'm a little worried it will be too restrictive

Also will they fit like a glove or wettie or are they going to be lose like dive booties? The idea of lose water in them puts me off.

Also any particular brands or style to go for?

Thanks.

Can you strap the toe first?

I've broken a big toe before and know what that's like - as you know, that's the one you always knock!

Its actually the second toe. Just next to the Big toe

The break is old but i just keep re kicking it. Also stepping in to rock holes doesn't help. Even the last few surfs i have had reef and rock pop up under me whilst sitting out back.

That and the walk down to the surf on rocky roads is just almost unbearable[}:)]

unless you REALLY feel the cold, get some summer booties as they have mesh and drain holes so they don't fill up with water, then you don't need to buy them super tight fitting (like indo reef slipper /booties).

All the major brands make them, jusy get what fits best.

I did grab some last night. I figure I'll just have to try them. I went the Rip Curl 1.5 mm ones that have a the strap over foot. I went one size smaller than usual so will see. Actually ended up at a beachy today and water didn't seem anywhere near as cold. BUT i kicked my toe and can hardly fu-en walk right now

By reef slippers do you mean like these

Worn booties for the last two years or so and I love them

Mostly reserved for reef or rock breaks. Trot past my mates that took the piss when I put them on as they fall about the place with sore feet

For cold they are alright. Yep a bit smaller is the ticket, but massive ouch on the toe front :( I tend to find alot of ppl ask if they are a pain to surf in. No more than a wettie is, I know they are there but they dont inhibit anything I'm doing.

Enjoy your booties

I used to surf the place you guys call the rock with booties. Mainly for walking over the reefs. These days I enjoy getting cut feet. Although, last thing you want to do is have a slow leak of claret coming out at the rock.
