I've been using an X-fold keyboard stands with some old roof rack pads for years. The best thing is you can easily adjust the height with one hand. You can buy them new for about $25.

For rails and stuff on edge I use a folding workmate bench with a heap of padding. It works well and I can clamp stuff so it won't move. Don't think I'd use it for a full shaping job but it's fine for repairs.

These people added a bend and doubled the price......

I like the old keyboard stands - but can't place the board on edge. Now I see that first pic - it's an easy mod to split the horizontal surface and weld in a little cross bar lower down. $30 from eBay.
