My mates are all still at uni and don't have the funds or more likely spend it more on partying and the likes. I'm in between. Having saved up enough dough and have some free time coming up/ whenever I want to get time off work I can, I am really keen on doing a trip away. Anyone has done a solo trip - purely to surf before? What was it like? Currently, I've only surfed through Bali and the surrounding islands and the many trips down south or up north from Perth. My skill level I'd consider as intermediate of which I can safely look after myself in the water.

So where do you guys think would be a good place to solo it? While purely to surf, I would not mind a few other activities to add. I was also considering hiring a local guide if not for at least the first few days for which ever country just to get me going. Anyone also have any tips to further this little plan of mine?

Cheers.

Been in Sri Lanka the last 3 weeks (1 to go sadly).....lots to see n do with amazing food and some decent waves as well. It can be done on the cheap if you wish and there are loads of friendly euro ladies around as well Keep away from the main spots and you surf by yourself most of the time or with one or two others. When it gets a bit bigger you will have it all to yourself. It has two distinct seasons.

Surfed in Sri Lnka ,Aragun Bay in the 80's for 4weeks ,surfed everyday except for 1 day where I was sick.
Epic waves and great adventure ,the land of the wobbling head!
rather cheap back in those days.

Back in the day when I was more adventurous, I'd take off in the car along the coast for 3 months, from dec to feb. (until tech resumed). Plenty of good waves (and new mates) in Australia if you like. What you'd spend on airfares etc, can be spent on petrol or the odd comfy night in a motel.

Add your question/topic to the Longboarding Forum. Its more active and you will probably get more feedback. (seems to have gone to sleep here) cheers

Mex / Central America. Airfares are a bit pricey but once you' re there it's dirt cheap. Spent a month there in march and had waves everyday. Go there at the right time - April to October and it'll be pumping everyday. Chilled locals, cheap beer and right points galore. What's not to like?

Cheers guys, most definately all those spots are on the bucket list. Is it simply a matter of packing light with the board and bumming your way through the trip or have you guys grabbed a tour guide even if it was just to get started?
Also generically -
a) How much do you think needs to be saved up minimum to have a good trip?
b) How long should one spend in a certain country to really experience it?

No guides
More money = longer trip
As long as the surf keeps pumping stay put when it goes flat move

Travelled South America for 8 months in 2005, would definately go back to a few of those countries. Airfares are a bit pricey to get there but then food, beer and accom was very cheap. Longnecks about $1Aus for comparison.
Nice people in most countries just need to keep your wits about you and not look to rich.
