I have just booked a trip to the Mentawais later this year. I want to get some advice on good travel insurance providers. I have had a look and there seems to be a couple of specialised surf travel insurers, are these over kill and do they have the standard loopholes a lot of other travel insurance covers have, i.e. surfboards not covered on transit. I just want to make sure if that something serious happens (i.e. break my leg surifng) that I am covered. Thanks in advance!

I got some through aami last time I went away. They were pretty good, covered your boards even in use. Never made a claim though.

I use RAC (WA) maybe not the cheapest but covered for full medi vac (must have) and riding scooters (must hold international drivers).

Claimed one year when knocked unconscious jaw the size off a football, tooth died got infected.

Had to come home early took photos of face, broken board and wrote up a detailed blurb (full scope) paid out in full i.e. flight change costs Bali dentist (who nearly killed me) taxis the lot no questions.

Premium credit cards offer insurance where you use the card to book the trip. Worth checking the terms though!

Thanks for advice guys. will have a look at ammi and rac. I have had family members who have had a couple of bad experiences with credit card travel insurance so I try and not to rely on that.
