Ok I've sussed out some boards a mate is kinda keen on but I can't decide which will suit him better.

The toss up is between:

6'6 yahoo yallingup hippy

The way things has panned out I owe him a board and want to get him on something that will be a quick paddler and get him over the hump he is stuck behind and get him stoked!
Any advice or reviews to help me pick!!!

I had a Dhufish and loved it. Great board for a beginner IMO

Everyone is different, some pick it up straight away, some take years/ decades to pick it up. For a beginner/ intermediate a mid length all round tried and tested shape would be a safe bet and work in the fickle mostly crap conditions perth gets. Fish boards have unusual bursts of speed and are in general a bit harder to ride, are they not?

^^^^^^^^^^The tuflite will be too big. You can go 4-6" down to compensate for their 'corkiness'.

Dominators look like a great shape imo.

To be honest I dont buy into the "corkieness" debate.
The flotation of a board is equal the weigh of water the volume the board displaces (archemedies priciple). Maybe they weigh less than a PU board but it doesnt make any sense, nor should it make much differnece unless the weight differnce of the boards is significant.

I want a board he can ride at spots like avalon but also at scabs or trigg.
I also have my doubts about the randy soul fish.

Anyone actually ridden a dominator?

Two very different wave types there (on their day). Would be best solved with two different boards for me. But from a beginner's perspective, any generic overvolumed board would be fine. Time in the water much more important than intricacies of shape.
