Hey guys, I tried a 5'5" baked potato (FireWire ) last week, was awesome. Super fast and loose and a heap of fun in surf below shoulder high. Does anyone have one or have any feedback on sizes. I'm caught in between getting a 5'5" 36lts or a 5'3" 32.7lts. I'm 6' and 76kgs.any feedback much appreciated.

how confident a surfer are you?.. id say 5'3 would be heaps of volume for 76kgs

also slightly still on topic.. how good does that new timber deck look that firewire are releasing on the baked potato

I suppose the bigger board might be the safer option. Those timber finishes look great.

Not sure what standard I fit into (using their volume calculator) but I can pump speed out of a face no probs, late take off not a problem, and do little floaters and cutties ect. My previous groveller was a 5'8" js nitro (27ltrs) but I've quit smoking and put on 10kg so now I'm questioning sizing again.

Try find a second handy..I picked up my Sweet Potato for less than half price. As new and only a year old..

Im 86 kilos and ride that at 5'8" but could go loads smaller..but for a groveller was happy enough to have the extra volume..

Tried that. Can't find one anywhere (so at least the resale will be good if I get the wrong size;).

Any surfboard that involves FireWire and worst still handles like a potato can't be good IMO. But then again I am a bit extreme when it comes to hating epoxy boards.

I've seen you sail and if you surf anything like that, you'll be fine on the small one.

I own a 5"6 merrick biscuit and was on the prowl for something new.

I've since gone down to a 5"4 groveller and it is way better.

definitely go smaller.

What do you want to use it for, If it's super grovel i would go the 5'5" if your a bit lazy and just want to have fun. I am 6'0 and 80kg and have the 5'5" and as a grovel board would be hard to beat. I have surfed the 5' 3" and no problems for float and you could probably whip it around better but the 5' 5" just maintains it's momentum through flat sections and tiny waves better for me at my weight. The 5' 5" is only 2 1/2" thick and the rails are quite pulled down so if you have speed you can still put it on rail. I love this board and it's changed my whole out look on those tiny days when I use to not bother. Both sizes will float you so you won't go wrong with either size. Better still get both.
