Great White sharks are not an endangered species and they should not be protected. They have become a clear and indiscriminate threat to humans across the globe and they need to be culled, if not outright hunted to extinction. As apex predators, they lie at the very end of the foodchain, and their elimination would be largely inconsequential from an ecological perspective.

I'm not going to bite. Definitely not in the mood for another drawn out shark debate.
I will say one thing though, if this is the same one that is responsible for the apparent attack at Cottesloe then I will agree this one should be killed. IF it is the same one it's clearly associated humans with food. I think killing this particular one (if they can even ID it, which they can't) would be the wisest thing to do and that takes a lot for me to admit ![]()
Not a time for argument
. I will take my cap off for you Suba. You have come out of your zone to even get close to think about destroying any shark. Sad dayfor all water people. On the other hand, perfect hunting weather. I had a look this morning and shook my head. I did feel sorry for the young Gromms who had to surf the Rip Curl search at Trigg though. Lets hope they have a few look outs in the water for the finals tomorrow. They have little option to surf or not.
RIP for another water lover.![]()
Things that make you go hmmmm!
Used to dive North Point all the time when I lived on the rock. Great spot but always spooky.
Oh and Scaife that was one of the most moronic statements I've ever seen online, like saying removing lions from the food chain would have no effect in Africa.

Suba - how many whites do you think would be swimming around Perth Metro waters? or all of WA for that matter?
If they are rare enough to be protected surely the number is small?
If they catch one around Rotto in the next few days, surely the odds are its the same one? The only way to know for sure is to take a look at what it has been eating?
Im not for hunting them outright, but this is starting to look like negligence to me on the part of the authorities.
Listen to the experts what they have to say...interesting ! ![]()

Better yet, tag the shark with acoustic AND GPS tracking-tags and track it closely. If it moves off then problem solved. If it sticks around then the data collected would be very telling.
^^^That's what I would like to see done.
I was at Trigg this morning and it was very sharkie, really dark with little wind and my time in the water was a little nervous. There wasn't many people around either.
R.I.P.
Followed the previous threads on shark attacks closely. I'm with Suba mainly but at the moment I think there needs to be a rethink. You just can't go wiping out anything that poses a threat to man, every now and again. GWS should be protected but on the other hand if there are attacks then something needs to be done. Maybe the authorities should look at baiting the area for 72 hours after a shark attack fatality. If nothing takes the bait in that time let them be till the next fatality. Look how long authorities followed the shark that attacked Ken Crew. Could taking this action at the time possibly of saved a couple of families a lot of heartache recently. I agree theres problems with setting baits as you may even draw other sharks into the area that are not at fault. Very tricky and touchy situation.
Thoughts go out to the poor family in America that are going to get woken up by a phone call or knock on the door no-one wants to recieve.
been in twice today, both times had to will myself to stay out, glassy shoulder to head high sets. The second one was with the knowledge of the attack and I'll tell you it was only because it had got better down here, never known a season when it's been so unnerving in the water. If I could hit up a website that tells me their whereabouts and if that site cost 1000 bucks a year, I'd whip out the Visa as quick as the missus in a shoe shop...
I went in very early this morning and must admit, I got that sharky vibe this morning that I only get a few times a year. It's the 3rd time now I've had that vibe the same day someone's been killed. I think from now on I'll listen to it.
I might start making phone calls on Monday ![]()
Give me something to do over summer when I'm not in Indo building coral reefs ![]()

and its started...![]()
I am leaning towards either a cull or a **** load of GPS trackers RIGHT NOW!
something needs to be done!!
So Colin Barnett has given the go ahead to try and catch and irradicate the offending shark. Fisheries have baited hooks at the location now. I hope it comes back for a sniff.
Didn't realise Colin Barnett was a shark expert... oh well, learn something new every day.
I can understand the response, but how the hell are they going to ID the offending shark? Let me guess...just kill anything they catch and cut it open till they find a body.
Fingers crossed they get it right with the first catch.
fisheries need to get of their a@#ses and start tagging all whites in the local waters instead of wasting time monitering them in the bite. mabey the'll find out if it is just the same one.
Like I said, the only way of doing that is by killing it...unless it's caught VERY soon.
It's like how they use to drown people to see if they were a witch or not. If you're innocent you're still ****ed.
Yep I hear and appreciate what your saying. I hope that doesn't happen either.
Something had to happen. Whether it was the right decision only time will tell.
I agree, a response was necessary. Who knows, maybe they do have the intention of tagging it. Can't always go with what the media reports.
Another thing...why the **** was he diving alone? Before anyone jumps down my throat, I'm not suggesting that a dive buddy could have prevented this.
But really...solo diving...not even once.
