Was just heading out for a paddle this arvo at Secret Harbour beach, probably about 20 or so of us out there and happened to see a shark (unsure of its species) about 30m away from the group of us. Thought it might have been a dolphin until it got a little closer and you could see the outline and a straighter fin. Probably about 2.5-3m in length.

Happy to say I'd put Jesus' little 'walking on water' trick to shame! Reported to the fisheries and should be on sharkalarm. General FYI for all those in southern WA for this weekend!

Apparently a VERY large white (school bus with fins was the descriptor) breached in the middle of a dozen blokes at Pea Break about 10 this morning. Thrashed about splashing everyone, eyeballed a bloke then slunk off into the depths. He said the line up emptied rather quickly

Dunno whether you've ever seen a BIG white Scooby but they're a mind numbing thing to see when you're in the water.

I ran into one with a mate at Rocky Point about 20 yrs ago, just the two of us out. I'd just caught a wave and was paddling back out when I saw it in the wave behind Matty. I bailed straight for the keyhole as Matty went past me on the wave, scrambled up the rocks and called Matty in.

We then sat there for 15-20 mins watching a school bus (think one of those orange and green 21 seaters) with fins and big phuck off teeth cruising up and down the drop off looking for it's lunch that had done a runner.

It's a VERY sobering situation to be in when you sit there and watch something the size of a couple of Kombis swim around looking to eat you.

I know how those poor blokes felt this morning, your bowles turn to liquid, you realise your mortality in the blink of an eye, you don't whether to flee or freeze and you think and dream about it for a long time afterwards.

It's not something to make light of mate. And it's starting to happen too often.

not quite so easily dismissible there suba. to have a dorsal appear near you is one thing; to have a breacher is another altogether. that's some freaky stuff.

btw, was it just breaching, or did it actually have something in its jaws?

Mate that was a great price. Good to know that you're not another money hungry dealer looking to rip as much as you can out of anyone you can. Goes a long way in this day and age.
Looked like an awesome boat. If ya get anything like that in again let me know.

the guy that reported this did the correct thing all white sightings should be reported to water police asap and downloaded by the individual to shark alarm

then individuals can make their own decisions

The same or another white has been seen a pea break on Thursday, saw the notice put up on Jake pattersons instagram "snaketails. Starting to wonder if it's worth the risk.

Can you stay out of the water?!! i can't, I've surfed pea break heaps on my own and its always a bit eerie out there but will definately surf it again when its on. Its the same anywhere, these sharks are just getting closer to shore now. Did anyone catch the west a few days ago with the white that circled the divers? that was heavy!

Yeh I read the West. Would be pretty spooky.
I'd be so stoked afterwards though, I would love to see a great white (and get to swim away).

The guy also said in the article lucky he was in a group, not alone like he usually dives...silly billy *(unless i misinterpreted it, but that's what it sounded like)

Looking at the footage posted on 'the west' yesterday of the fishermen who spotted the GWS, I notice the shark circles around but it does not have it's dorsal fin right out of the water(Jaws style). It's more like a mullet swimming or the surface or bait fish impersonation. No real indication of what lies beneath! This is worrying.

It's in the sharks favour to not be noticeable, especially given one of their primary food sources are seals. Sharks like to cruise near seal rookeries and pick off the slow/weak ones that head out for fish. The sharks wouldn't do to well if they swam around with their fins sticking out of the surface, advertising their presence to the seals sitting on the rocks

Having said that, they still stick their fins out often enough that it's a habit that is exploited with satellite tags (attached to the fin) that only transmit data when they are exposed to the air.

Yeah have noticed this boat hanging around allot, I've sat out there a few times thinking I wonder if he is burlying up the water. Is there any laws on how close to land a commercial fishing vessel can fish?, I know there are heaps of rules and regs governing them, but being so close to such a popular surf and swimming spot, can't be wise.

have sent a query to fisheries, the more people who do this, the more likely they will consider both the fishery and the human risk

There has a been a fishing boat (commercial) at Cowaramup(spelling?) bay and they have a few times been reported for washing down in the bay leaving a huge oil slick[}:)] That cant help either.
