ok so my wife and I were supposed to go to the mentawais this sept.. but its been postponed for a year ..

so we are going to go on a short (5 day) trip to bali.. looked through some old threads but most were about driving vs hiring a driver ect

only been once before and i was 15.. so wondering where exactly we should stay/go?

gonna be in May/June.. would be nice to get a wave or two as well but im more taking my wife to relax since she let me go to png last year.

so looking for somewhere a bit nicer with nice beaches? not after good night life.. more relaxing with a bintang by the beach.

any thoughts/recommendations?

Im not sure if you can stay there but Balagan just south of the old Dreamland has a great beach with lossman on the beach. I have only been to that spot once but I would like to spend more time there, had a nice feel to it

Hey Sham,
Try Bali Retreats web site. I stay at a place called "Alamanda" at Bingin.
$50 US a night for 2 inc breakfast. I love kicking back there as there is only 7 bungalows so nice & quiet.

Lembongan. Gorgeous spot for a few days with the bride and great waves to boot. Free diving is nuts too, amazing coral. Do a day trip to the waterfall and bat cave on Nusa Penida. The left on Cenigan aint too foul either just watch the stakes

This is where we stayed -8.683374, 115.432907 I think it's called Coconuts Beach Resort or something, great little restaurant next door to watch the sun go down over Agung. There's a death left in the bay here or jump in a boat to Shippies.

I love Balangan but it's not a patch on Lembongan.

Balangan is the go, good waves, nice people and a great beach. Love the place but hell of a walk down the path/raod to the chalets etc.. Its also getting really really crowded even on a small swell day. But would be happy to go back... Kev

Great spot, owned by a mate of mine. Really good service there and in a great location...there's a sweet break right out front of the resort if you go in off the cliffs and paddle for a minute or so. Some nice snorkeling/free-diving right out front too.

Last time I was there (july2010) The owner and I were discussing the idea of doing a coral restoration there to really improve the snorkeling out front of the resort, but don't know if they've continued with the project.

If you do go to Lembongan and just want somewhere cheap but clean then hit up World Diving Lembongan. They should be able to set you up with a clean room right on the beach. +62 (0)8123900686 ask for John Chapman

EDIT: And a note for the Lembongan virgins. Watch out for the currents in the water. Don't care how strong a swimmer/paddler you are...some of those currents will defeat you if you're not careful.

The other great thing about Lembongan is that the hawkers don't hassle you anywhere near as much as Bali.

Suba you're bang on about the currents, I tried to paddle from Lacerations back to Coconut's one day, just under 2k's and as soon as I went over the drop off the current had me and I was flying up the strait towards the north end of Bali. Only just made it back into Shipwrecks and was absolutely rooted by the time I got in.

Balangan has losman stays on the beach about $10- $15 a night but i dont think thr Mrs will b happy

Uluwatu has some great homestays around the joint, stayed at one just 5min walk fro blue point side $30 with air con 2 beds clean bathroom, great people run it loads of trust and every sunset Bintangs good food at Single Fin Bar on top of the hill.

Try Medewi and or Balian, beautiful spots and can get a really good wave....potential for romantic sunset solitude LOVIN!!![}:)]

or

GO to LOMBOK the Gilli islands...mmmm surf reefs romance[}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)]

Yeah the Gillis are good, very chilled and relaxing and great waves if you get a mega swell. Only ever gets to four or five foot but really nice, when this happens Deserts is 10+.
I actually don't mind Sengiggi either kinda like a smaller version of Sanur and the Point is one of the best waves I've ever surfed. Once again it needs a big swell, if Deserts is 6-8 this'll be 1-3. But if you catch it at 4-6+ all three sections link up and it's just nuts. I've only ever stayed there in the wet, the trades would be wrong in May/June.
Same goes for the Gillis. Still you've always got the early and the LAGO.

Check out balangan sea view bungalows if you decide on balangan, short stroll to the cliff to check out the surf and nice enough to keep the woman happy, definately make it to the single fin bar at ulu's for sunset drinks will make selling future bali trips much easier.

Smicko/suba.. Lembongan looks amazing! if we had a bit more time and money id definitely check it out!

had almost booked a place in Balangan when i found out some friend will be in Canggu the same time. so looks like my quiet holiday will be slightly less quiet.
