Cheers Spot.

Have paid for 20kg of luggage and planning to take all my luggage in the board board.

Just wondering whether they will hit me up with fee for sporting equipment as well ...

Thats the second time Ive heard of boards broken on air asia flights. Cheap flights but your boards will cost to be repairedRather pay the extra for flights and have boards arrive in tact.

morning crew

i just returned from indo with air asia. Be careful overloading board bags, it cost me $20 for 15kg, this is standard with them and every kg over this amount is charged at $10 each. My mate got slugged more than you would all believe, over $80 aussie in excess. the aussie end is all good, its when you are shipping around overseas that they slug you big time. i also booked extra luggage with my ticket, this doesn't count towards sporting equipment. boards are considered a completely separate item.
hope this has been of some help to you, have a great trip, i think i need another one very soon.

So have booked 20kg of luggage but was going to put everything in my board bag.
So you are saying they will slug me for the weight with the sporting equipment anyway?

my experience with air asia on more than 1 occasion is as follows.
sporting goods, including boards, are checked in and weighed separately.
if you pay for extra luggage at booking time this does NOT include you boards.
hence why they are a budget airline.
just my experience, others may differ.
read the fine print with whoever you book with, always a catch with boards....

I've had the same experience as WASSUPP again and again.

20kg of baggage is for just that.

Boards are not included as "baggage" and the boards have a weight limit of 15kg too, so ya cant through all your stuff into the board bag.

I was a bit confused the first time because they dont have an option to pay sporting goods fee online when you book your ticket, so you buy the baggage thinking its the same thing.... then you find out its not

You can only pay for your boards at the check-in counter. Plead your case though i've got away with it before.

thank god im not the only air asia victim, cheers joe
its a pain in the arse jjd, a backpack and coffin is the best way to travel.
just pack everything into a big backpack as hand luggage, and only leave dangerous goods and toiletries in your coffin. thats what i had to do.

Flew AirAsia with the family to Bali in July. We had 4 surf boards and a boogie board. Got slugged $20 per piece this end (including the booger) and 150,000 rp per piece on the return flight but managed to check the booger in with our other luggage on our 30kg allowance.

You are allowed 15kg per item so bundle boards together into a single bag and make sure it's under 15kg and you'll be sweet.

I just got back from Bali and flew Air Asia, I thought that it was all pretty good. No dammage from the airline, in fact boards were perfect.

I got more dammage on Garuda last year!!

I only took two this year, could have gotten away with one tho....

they snapped my quad on way to bali this year, not a bad place to take a snapped board. Got a really nice repair for 30 bucks, dropped off at 10am picked up by 5pm. Only time i have ever had a problem with them after numerous trips with boards. i reckon it mostly comes down to the baggage handlers at the airport.

I had no problem with airasia in may. I did get some cheap camping mats and wrap the rails inside the board bag - and as above, secured it - I locked the zips. They charge you a surfboard fee (~$20) so don't pay advanced extra kgs unless your bags will be full of indo bargains on the way home

have a rip snorter
