FAAAARRK
A surfer has been attacked by a shark near Wedge Island this morning, police say.

A police spokesman said emergency services were heading to the scene, about 4km south of the island.

He said the man's injuries were extensive

another death , how about we start talking about what may be causing the increase in shark numbers and how to deal with them.
my vote is culling.

Perhaps not drag the usual argument into this thread. A bloke isn't coming home and it sounds a few people on here were involved. Hope everyone is doing ok.

Terrible news. Got a sms from a mate in the west this morning saying that he had been trying to stay realistic about the risk of shark attacks but after 5 fatals in 10 months he was reconsidering.

RIP and condolances to all his family and friends, was at Lano today. Only reason didnt go up there was time restraints.

Good on all the people who helped him or tried to help him, not a nice situation to find yourself in so big ups to all on the scene.

Totally agree with keeping this thread as a condolances thread and not one that ens up getting lost with the political situation surrounding what has happened.

About 1 km or so south of South Rocks, almost exactly in line with the range caretakers cottage.

Exactly where I park most times. Exactly where I spent seven hours two weeks ago with no-one else within 300-500m. Exactly where me and two other guys off the forum went a couple of months ago. Exactly where I would've gone today with another forum guy if I didn't have some pressing responsibilities. Sobering.

Hope you're OK suba and anyone else who was up there.

RIP old mate.

Thoughts to all involved either directly or otherwise.

I understand we need to respect at this time
But this did not need to happen
If we were getting half the info that fisheries have about these sharks we would be making informed decisions about where and when to surf
How many deaths is it going to take before people are willing to get together and demand answers or current info

of course i also say Rip and coldolences to family and friends.
