was at a offroad surf location recently, which I will call spot "D". There is a large adequate carpark more than big enough to fit plenty of cars. Yet 3 four wheel drives had to drive onto the dunes and on the vegetation (destroying it) just to save themselves a 30 second walk north to a less crowded surf break. I was recently was looking at overhead photograph changes in last 10 years in a region where 4wds go regularly, massive erosion and loss of vegetation. As surfers we need to watch our footprint on the environment

Granted, I love being able to drive on the beach...but the stupid 5hit I see some 4WDers do makes me facepalm.

I agree with you 100 percent but to change this you would pretty much have to change the attitude of most people on the road
Unfortunately the king of the highway attitude transfers itself to the beach
Even if you close a track people will just make a new one
Not sure what a viable solution is
Most people don't care

Not just surfers. Up at Wedge the cars come past doing warp nine..So now i park right in the middle of the drive line to slow them down..

Lots of surfers possibly think that's stupid but with kids playing i don't care.

Even if there is no kids most people dont understand the danger of driving fast on the beach.

Lets say you are 50kph + and hit a soft spot that you couldnt see, you and all the passengers are going to get hurt. Badly, even at 50kph.

I know of a case where a guy was driving a new Jeep 4WD and was speeding along a beach when he drove into a soft spot. Now that soft spot was actually a hole where someone had buried a dead whale. All the airbags had gone off and he was hurt, back and neck problems. The car was a write off.

Why do people think once they are off road they can whateva they want?!? Its just not cricket!!

its crap how a few S**t people ruin it for the rest of us using 4wd's to access surf spots/camping grounds.. there are plenty of 4wd tracks around.. i really dont see why people feel the need to make new ones over vegetation.

also motorbikes have alot to answer for in destroying the vegetation around the dunes..

90% of the time i see it.. its not surfers.. just bogans in their beefed up 4wd/motorbike out for a hoon on the dunes..

IN reply to 4wd in dunes, and on the beach,I think if the rangers bust you there is a $500 fine.On entrance to the D I'm sure there is a sign stating info as such.
Surf is looking rather large for Sunday!
Cheers
