What type of board? 6 weeks should be the max wait on any board, cant they read?

Was a big name shaper or a small/backyarder?

That sux. I would ask for my money back and tell em to stick the board up the clacker. that is very poor service to say the least.

Hey brother going to the top might promt a favourable response. If the board is what you have your heart / mind set on then push ahead. I ordered a custom board back in december and picked it up a couple of weeks ago. Local shaper who told me I would be waiting the time when I ordered the board. He got started on the board after looking at the boards i've been riding. He gets it to a rough shape then calls you in for a squiz. Once the board gets to the final shape you check it out again. Once the shape is spot on he sprays glasss and foils the fins then sands the board before handing it over. This particular time he even followed me down to the point and used the binos to watch how the board went. It cost more than the average board but believe me its not the average board. There is a master shaper in every surfer's back yard. I learnt more about boards and how they work in the last 6 months than i have in the last 6 years from talking to this particular master. Good luck with the new shooter.

Tom Hoye. This was the first board he has made for me. I often go and see the shaper and I find putting a spray on the board gives the board a differant feel. Makes the people creating the board think there is something differant about this one and they put a bit more effort or at least think about the board differantly to the same boards they punch out day to day. This might not mean anything if the board is made in a large scale opperation with shaping machines. I dont think there is a right or wrong way to get a board. If you see a board on the rack and it gives you a good vibe chances are it will work for you whether its been made in a shed out the back yard or in a classy workshop. Theres nothing quiet like getting your mitts on a new shooter and hopefully when you get one its just what youv'e been chasing. Happy hunting.

Tom Hoye from PE! The man has some years of brain power. In my books very under rated for how long he has been in the industry. He has taught Grub a few good rules and now Grub has intergrated his own style along with Toms.
From the story's I have heard Tom was the man to see for a new board when in Hawaii back years ago. I am sur after that he shaped for Mcoy just before they pumped out the first range of machined boards. After that he has been shaping for our South West Coast, so he should know what works in our backyard.

Yeah Toms a great bloke. If your chasing a bigger board I would go and see him for sure. I had a 7.0 from grub a while back. it was one of those boards I should have never sold. The few I have seen lately look good. You might pay a bit more and have to wait longer but I think its worth it if you have something particular in mind. The learning curve when talking to those blokes is cool. At least it was for me. I have a bit of an understanding about boards Ive made a few but its guys who make them all day every day for years who pack the knowledge.

Never had anything but custom, never waited 6 weeks and never had a board come out with the wrong dimensions.

Most boards these days are shaped with Aku shaper, Murray Bourton for example sends you the PDF of the board you discussed with him personally after he designs it for you. If I order a custom I always take the time to sit down with the shaper to talk about it, if you can't do it in person Muzz has the perfect solution.

You approve the shape, get to talk to a legend shaper and it arrives to you quickly.

I don't know how a new board can be better value than that.

This is a generic PDF produced by Aku shaper that can be sent to you.
